2025 Camino de Santiago

Bucket List.
My wife and I watched a movie called "The Way" and we both thought what a great way to see Europe and celebrate my retirement.
However, my wife lost an 18-year battle with breast cancer. She will travel by my side.

Super rough day in the mountains. Knee was unhappy ankle and back as well. But got through it. Also went to Cruz de Ferro or Iron Cross where a pilgrim carries a stone from wherever they start to symbolize the burdens they carry and are to be left at the cross. I left mine there and a touch of Lynda so she can help those with burdens to find some peaceRead more

Got my ass handed to me. As much of a climb as the Pyrenees but at least it was dry and cool. And the hill was at the end of 15 miles. Real butt kicker

Well thought with last night I was pretty well done with climbing mountains. No such luck. Had some very serious inclines to conquer. At the top of the most steep was a cafe. And boy was it busy. And worth itRead more

Very short day about 14.91 miles or thereabouts. Beautiful country and met a horse that if you didn’t approach him correctly would do his best to take a nibble of you. Poor Japanese guy could not figure that out. Horse almost got a pound of flesh out of him.Read more

Beautiful walk and a very serious increase in pilgrims. I would say triple the number that I had before Sarria. A lot of school groups assuming high school kids. All were polite and pleasant

Easy 9 mile walk mostly reflecting on lessons learned

When life rains on your parade? Break out an umbrella and do the Fred Astaire

One day an old man was walking along the beach in the early morning and noticed the tide had washed thousands of starfish up onto the shore. Ahead, he spotted a boy gathering up the starfish, then one by one tossing them back into the ocean. He approached the boy and asked why he spent so much energy doing what seemed to be a waste of time. The boy replied, “The starfish cannot live if they are left out in the sun.”

Then the old man gazed out as far as he could see and responded, “But there must be thousands of miles of beaches and countless starfish. You can’t possibly rescue all of them. What difference is throwing back a few going to make anyway?” The boy bent down picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled, and said, “It made a difference to that one!”

The old man leaned over, picked up a starfish and joined the boy throwing starfish into the water.

She made a difference to me and I made a difference for her. As much as it broke my heart? I returned her to the sea so that one day we can meet again.
