    Cold and flu

    After a very turbulent, long and arduous flight we landed in San Jose at 7am. Got a taxi from a very enthusiastic driver to our hotel through the “developing nations” back streets. Not the kind of drive you need after so much airport and flight time! Basically slept all day, had a great dinner, then slept all night.Læs mere

    Cars, hummingbirds & rice pudding

    Had a leisurely morning with a solid breakfast of beans, eggs & tortillas. We hired a car from MexRentals which is not a name that fills you with hope and, we collected a real banger of a car. After 20 minutes of driving we had to return the car and had it replaced with something newer. Drove through the jungle with one stop at a butterfly and hummingbird garden. Arrived at hotel in the dark but it has a pool and hot springs so should be nice!Læs mere

    Hanging Bridges and lake

    We explored the jungle via a hanging bridge trail which gave you a great view of the canopy. It’s insanely dense and very muggy. Couldn’t spot any animals. After that we went out on some kayaks into a lake and then the classic jungle rain decided to start so we got drenched!Læs mere

    Waterfall adventure

    Went to see a big old rainforest waterfall today after the pouring rain. It was a mighty impressive beast! Swimming up to it was actually quite terrifying - I could see why they told you not to swim under it! Went for a good traditional lunch and watched a rainstorm and then went for a walk through the jungle. This place is so humid that you basically just stay drenched all day!Læs mere

    New ground

    We were moving hotels today so we started by doing the jungle walk through the hotels grounds. Got very rained on again! Started driving towards the new hotel and stopped at a really cool waterfall which we could swim underneath and then went to see a crocodile bridge. Thoughts of the country so far are food is good, rain is heavy!Læs mere

    Sea Turtle Conservation

    Went on a bit of a mission this morning to help release some sea turtles. The journey over was very interesting - we had to drive through some backwards nowhere and onto a ferry which was very handmade looking. We then jumped on the back of a pickup truck and were driven across the beach but the guy got the pickup stuck. It was a bit of a mess in the heat! Sea turtles were very cute. Then did a zip line thing and spent more time on the beach and in the pool to hide from the heat.Læs mere

    Animal Sanctuary

    Had to take Ben to the airport and went to an animal sanctuary today. Driving hasn’t got any less crazy and there was a reeeeeeally angry cat that paced and hissed at us which was fun. Saw lots of birds and monkeys at the sanctuary - good day but very sweaty.Læs mere

    Graffiti & final sunset

    Went to find a waterfall and the heavens then opened! After sitting in the shelter for a while we decided to go elsewhere and ended up at an abandoned hotel full of really cool graffiti and iguanas! Went for a swim at a surfers cove which had great waves. Sat and watched the sunset drinking coconut water from a straw, thanks Crica!Læs mere

    Pura Vida

    Walked around a rainforest in search of sloths in the morning and saw loads of other animals too! Drank some good coffee and ate some questionable food - final day in paradise. Went into the city to watch the “festival de la luz” which is essentially their “turning on the lights”. Was really good but both Lucy and Vix had a panic attack so we left before it got really good and watched it on the telly.Læs mere
