    Ten miles before Porthmadog, disaster stuck. I got a puncture and when I put the new tyre in realised that my pump didn't work. I was in the middle of nowhere so went for the 'ride on a flat' option which meant very slow progress (but still faster than walking). The photos are of Porthmadog from the hills with a flat tyre.Read more

    Porthmadog has a British Rail station plus three heritage railways so is basically a trainspotters dream. Whilst obviously not a trainspotter I, er, took these snaps as I happened to be there when a train came.

    Back to the coast to the pretty village of Criccieth, where the castle overlooks miles of coast in both directions.

  • Taking the train to Caernarfon

    The route today spends over 10 miles following disused railways. It joins the Welsh Highlands Railway which the path follows to Caernarfon with its amazing Castle.
