    17 september 2025, Nederland ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

So happy to see it was raining again today 😂
Never mind. Caught the bus to the fishing village of Volendam. Despite the rain, it's still a pretty place even if a bit touristy. The weather did stop us wandering to far so we amused ourselves at the cheese factory, tasting all the cheeses ,the local museum and the pub.
fun facts: 1. The airport is 4.5 m below sea level.
    2. They each eat 8L of ice cream per year.

    18 september 2025, Nederland ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

After farewelling rainy Amsterdam its was a quick trip to sunny Köln.
Not wasting the good weather we headed for "old town". It was rebuilt after WWII.
After soaking up sunshine in the plazza, it was off to see Köln Cathederal. Magnificent. We got a great leg workout climbing the 553 stairs to the top of the tower and down again. The view was worth it. Plus there was only 6 of us up there.
We finally managed to have a dinner outside.

Today the had another thought, rainy and 8°. 🥶.
Very fitting weather to travel to Flossenburg to see the remains of the concentration camp that my dad was in. While most of it has been destroyed by the allies, the laundry /shower block, camp kitchen, the SS headquaters, watch towers and crematorium remain. There's a lovely memorial garden, Jewish memorial and a chapel representing all the different nations imprisoned. It's a miracle dad survived the camp. I'm so glad we visited.Meer informatie

We braved the walk to the bus station so we can get the bus to Lake Bled. What chaos!! We'd already our purchased our ticket but we needed our ticket printed. Is there a line for that...of course not, You have to lineup with everyone who doesn't know where they're going. 🤦‍♀️
Lake Bled is beautiful. Walked half around the lake this afternoon before heading back to our guest house. Were in for another freezing night.

Most of the walk is on a wooden board walk that hung over the edge of Radovna River with dripping water from the rock overhangs.
Then it was back down via alpine meadows where we could see snow on the mountains .
Found a quaint pub in Bled to quench our thirst after all that excersise.

We had a few hours to fill in before heading back to Ljubjlana in the afternoon so we decided to do the 6km stroll around Lake Bled. Didn't want to waste that sunshine. Half way around the little boats were calling. Of course we just had to answer the call. Lovely row (not by us) out to the island and back. Then continued our walk. We got within a km of the end and the path was closed which meant turning around and walking back. Luckily for us the little tourist train came along and saved us.Meer informatie

Took the easy way down on the funicular.
A drink to watch the sunset from our accommodation rounded off our day.

    10 oktober 2025, Slovenië ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

Today we did a tour to the Postojana caves. These limestone caves are 25km long but you can only go in 5km of it. It was crowded. First km is on a little train then you walk through the rest until you come back to the train. Some of the stalactites and stalagmites were huge and quite active.
Then it was on to Predjana Castle. It was a surprise. It's built into the cave 127m up a cliff. Hard to attack but very cold and drafty. It even had an escape tunnel. The front of the castle was built in 1583 but the cave part is from the 1100s.
Iy was a good day but not what we really wanted to do.
Tonight was back to the night food markets for dinner.
