    Dongara

    Started off yesterday walking out on the beach and boardwalk and then walked into town to do the 4 km Dongara Heritage Walk taking in 28 heritage sites some of which are now private homes. We stopped at the local pub, built in 1867, for lunch, so good we had to go back for dinner which was great. Lovely accommodation and a great beach.Read more

    Perth to Dongara

    Left early yesterday for the 350km trip to Dongara mostly along the coast stopping at Lancelin for a dune buggy hoon around the miles of sand dunes. Guess who got stuck going up a hill🤪🤪🤪So Jeanette had to push me out🤣🤣🤣great fun, felt like a teenager again.
    Then to The Pinnacles, a strange sometimes eerie feeling with the rock formations in the sand.
    Now at the Seaspray Beach Holiday Park overlooking the ocean in a lovely two bdrm villa. The shower head is something else but at least there is plenty of hot water.    Read more

    Trip into Kata Tjuta National Park . Walked into the Walpa Gorge listening to our informative and passionate guide explain the 36 domes and the cultural significance as a sacred Aboriginal men’s ceremonial site. Amazing rock formation. Not far away from Uluru. Another good walk.Read more

    Helicopter Trip

    Did a half hour helicopter ride over Kings Canyon, so interesting to see where we had walked from the air and over the Watarrka National Park. Vast and sparse but amazing.

    Rim Walk - Kings Canyon

    The four of us (same extra 2 as yesterday) went wit a female guide to walk the canyon rim, WOW again. Great with just 5 of us. The 500 steps to begin with were a killer but I made it. 🤪🤪🧗🏿‍♀️🧗🏿‍♀️Breathtaking views of Watarrka National Park. Photo of Jeanette and I in ‘Priscilla’s crack’ from the movie Priscilla Queen of the Desert which was filmed here.We walked into the ‘Garden of Eden’, steep but worth doing. Great guide and great company. 4 hours later we were knackered but on a high from a great day.

    Kings Canyon

    Flew to Kings Canyon on an 8 seater plane with 2 others (father and son) 35 mins flying time into the land of no internet.😪😪
    Red dirt airstrip on Kings Station, WOW. Then went on an adventure to listen to the local indigenous Karrke Aborigines which was interesting, then came the best part, eating a Witchity Grub. I kid you not, it was delicious and the 4 of us went back for seconds.Read more

    Uluru

    Wow, made it and what a place. Got off bus at Hotel to be greeted by ‘about bloody time ‘ by Jeanette. Great to see her again.
    Walked to the town square which is part of the Ayers Rock Resort, we are at Sails in the Desert all part of the resort. We have just arrived home from ‘Sounds of Silence’ a dinner out in the desert. Wonderful views of the ‘Rock’ and a wonderful dinner. Off to Kings Canyon tomorrow for two nights.Read more

    Adventure to Uluru & Perth

    Not a good start. Flight scheduled for 6.35 this morning Akld to Sydney then Uluru. Flight delayed, on tarmac for 4 bloody hours so missed my flight to Uluru. Long story but have to stay night in Sydney at Qantas expense as only one flight a day to Uluru. So missed out on the Festival of Lights and the walk around the rock at dawn tomorrow. So angry with Qantas because they mucked me around for three hours upon arrival.
    Jeanette enjoying herself in Uluru on her own (and so she should) and me not happy. A new day tomorrow, it can only get better🥴🥴    Read more

    Richmond to Hobart Airport

    Oh dear, our last day together travelling, so sad. We left Richmond with mixed feelings not really wanting to end our holiday. Lovely quirky accommodation.
    Jeanette was booked on an earlier flight than me so I try to get on same flight but at $500 difference, forget it!!!
    Said our goodbyes😢😢and I waited. My flight 45 mins late, went to pick up luggage at Melbourne, not there, came in on an earlier flight (Jeanette’s).
    An hour wasted trying to track it down. Walked to my Hotel, booked into dinner, only time 7.45pm. Ok, got there, 3/4 hour later still hadn’t got my starter, words were said!!!
    My whole meal and wine were free. Just as well.
    Back to reality tomorrow.

    Bicheno to Richmond

    Started the day with a 7.7km walk along the foreshore to the ‘blowhole’ which was not really active. Oh well, one of those days. Wonderful scenery though.
    We talked about having another scallop pie as they are yum. Reached Swansea and found a takeaway/restaurant selling them. Jeanette ordered 2, price $33.80, she paid and with a puzzled look questioned the assistant who said the pies were full of scallops, we waited and watched. Our pies were not from a pie warmer but were made from scratch. 10 mins later we had them to take away, in a box baked in a tinfoil base. $16.90 each, they had better be good. 12 scallops and scrummy pastry later they are the best on earth and worth every penny.
    Carried on to Richmond, found our quirky accommodation and walked to the oldest span bridge in Australia, absolutely beautiful. Visited the historic Gaol then wine time. Last meal together at the historic pub as we go home tomorrow. So sad.    Read more

    Wineglass Bay Cruise

    No dawn parade today sadly as we had to leave early to meet our cruise boat tour leaving from Coles Bay. We travelled down to Schouten Passage out into the ocean, and up the east coast to Wineglass Bay where we anchored for lunch. Unusual rock formations and caves. Not as good as the last two cruises we have done but ok.
    Returned at 2pm, then did an hour and a half walk to the Wineglass Bay lookout. Real pleased we did it, very very steep going up. Lovely to look out over the Bay where we had been for lunch. Magnificent views and bush along with the huge rocks.
    Found our house for one night, great views over the ocean. Scallops, prawns, calamari, fish & chips for dinner.    Read more

    St Helens to Bicheno

    Lovely drive down to Bicheno today calling into lots of lovely beaches, even talked to some fishermen surf casting. One caught a decent sized ocean trout whilst we were there. Visited Coles Bay and the Freycinet National Park, along with Cape Tourville. Such amazing beaches and scenery.
    Had Lobster lunch at Bicheno, wow, so yummy. Because we had a big lunch we called into an oyster farm (there are many, I am in seventh heaven) and bought a dozen each for our dinner. Lovely, along with ocean trout an cheese & Bikkies. I am now so full.
    Saw lots and did lots, having so much fun with Jeanette, she is a wonderful travelling mate.    Read more

    Leaving Launceston

    Left our luxury accommodation to head up the eastern side of the Tamar River to Georgetown and Low Head lighthouse. Delightful historic place with old maritime cottages for rent. We thought this side much nicer than the west side. We even had to cross over the Tamar on the Batman Bridge just to say we had done it.
    Headed to St Helen’s via Bridport for a scallop pie for lunch on the foreshore. Yum.
    To Scottsdale, Derby and then Pyongyang’s to the cheese factory - ended up buying cheese and a chilly bag to hold it all!!! Then on to the Pub in a Paddock where Priscilla the pig likes a pint or two. A kiwi publican running this unorthodox pub in the middle of nowhere, so funny.
    Lots of beautiful countryside before we hit St Helens and our two bedroom cabin, very nice. Took off again for the Bay of Fires north of St Helens on the coast. Wow, just beautiful. Then dinner at a very new restaurant on the waterfront, seafood pasta, Yummy.    Read more

    Cataract Gorge and surrounds

    Out to Cataract Gorge to walk the Duck Reach Trail, a beautiful spot that has been made into a lovely family park, with lots of walking trails. We walked for two hours up the South Esk River across a suspension bridge to a disused Power Station open to the public showing the workings etc, it was well done. Lots of laughs on the way. Then headed up the west side of the Tamar River to the furthest point at Greens Beach/West Head. Beautiful scenery on the way. Called in to Platypus House at Beauty Point to see the Platypus and Echidnas, fantastic little things, only place we are going to see them as they are elusive in the wild. Now I can give Jeanette back her 20cent coin!!!!! We called into a little Swiss Village called Grindelwald where all the houses are built in Swiss Style, very different but cute. Back to Launceston for a drive around the town before crashing at our ‘luxury accommodation’. Ended the night with a wood fired seafood pizza from the restaurant close by, washed down with a good red.Read more

    Cradle Mountain to Launceston

    Wow, another huge day. Lake Barrington then on to Wilmot through rural roads and their colourful letter boxes.
    Up to Devonport, just another port not terribly interesting through Latrobe then stopped at Sheffield (mural town) for lunch at the local pub, not too bad either.
    Next stop Railton to see Topiary figures. Finally reached Launceston and found accommodation (pure luxury and cheaper than our cabin last night). Love it.
    Walked around town then had a wonderful salmon and salad dinner. Now bed time. Again absolutely buggered. Nearly forgot, we had a honey ice cream on the way.    Read more

    Cradle Mountain

    Made our way to Cradle Mountain, booked into our cabin in the National Park and took off for a walk. Very well done, one major car park with buses every 10 mins for the 20min drive to the start for us.
    We did the 6km circuit around Dove Lake under Cradle Mountain. Lots of steps, mostly rock, lots of timber board walks and lots of uneven small rock. Absolutely spectacular.
    It took us 2hrs 10mins although we did stop for about 10 mins to have our lunch. We have walked over 10 Km’s today. IJeanette & I had lots of laughs on the way.
    At 8.30pm we went to a Tasmanian Devil sanctuary to see them being fed along with quolls. The sanctuary does a lot of good with their breeding programme.
