Had lunch downtown yesterday after a walk around the markets. Interesting, but like all markets very busy. Fresh veg & fruit amazing. Tuk Tuk's everywhere and all drivers courteous not like NZ!!!

Angkor Wat

Amazing day today with a visit to the temple of Bayon, our guide is great and very informative. Then on to Angkor temple which is amazing set over many hectares. So much history. A climb to the top up a very steep staircase was worth every step, the views awesome. Cambodian people very hospitable & charming.En savoir plus

Lovely hotel, lovely room. Visited Ta Prohm temple, just amazing with fig tree roots growing over the ruins. Very, very hot, but our bus has lots of very, very cold water. Visited a developing school set up by one man and built into something very special, amazing children.En savoir plus

Business Class full but no worries, the service was great. Lovely to be able to lay down, both of us had good a good sleep. Silk Air to Siem Reap - Business Class empty, only Mike & I, so we got well looked after, quite special. Hotel lovely. Went out to Ta Prohm temple this arvo, just amazing place, then on to a school where the children danced and then showed us where they ate & slept, most of them are orphans. Now Thursday - time to put Find Penguins to bed for now. Finally over jet lag. We arrived home on Sunday from Houston after a 15 hour flight. We all thoroughly enjoyed seeing Lawrence, then attending Andrews graduation, so proud of what he has achieved. our trip will leave us with many happy memories. Mike & I will have to hone our 500 card skills!!! Cheers everyone.En savoir plus

Off to the NASA Space Centre this morning, all we can say is WOW. Such an amazing place. We did a tour through the actual training centre and were blown away with the way in which they train and just what it all entails. We timed it right to listen to a half hour address by a former Astronaut. He gave us a great insight into the routines of an Astronaut, so interesting. We also got to see the shuttle that was used in the 70's.
Mr uber then took us to the Holocaust Museum, a very humbling and moving experience.En savoir plus

Leaving Washington

Uber of course to the airport but google decided to send us the wrong way, thank goodness our guy knew the right way. Bit of road rage to deal with and one finger salute got us to the airport. Sat on the Tarmac for three hours with a mechanical problem, finally reached our destination at Houston, LATE. But hey guys it's "MY BIRTHDAY ". So dinner at the hotel. Washington Heat

33 degrees so a slow start. Not walking in this heat so Uber to White House Visitor Center for a virtual tour. Interesting photos and displays, so much history. We now know a lot more about American history. Short walk up to the White House, we could get right up close this time, as the other day protesters blocked our way big time. Awesome. Quick lunch, uber home to lovely air con apartment. Wandered out for dinner to Romeo & Juliet restaurant. Had a drink with the young interns on our arrival back. Interesting topic of conversation. Capitol Hill

Little walk down our road is Capitol Hill so off we toddled this morning to join the crowds. We managed join a tour immediately, right time, right place!!! Architecture is amazing, no words can describe it really, absolutely beautiful. Our guide was great, passionate about the history of his country and worth listening to. From there we went to the Museum of American Indian History, fascinating. A short stroll to the Space Museum which was amazing, so many exhibits, plus so many people . Think everyone was inside for the air conditioning as it is so hot here. Tomorrow is going to be worse - 34degrees.En savoir plus

Hop on Hop off - Washington

Great hop on hop off bus today sussing out what we want to visit the next couple of days. Arlington Cemetery to visit JFK gravesite & the eternal flame. Changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown was amazing. Next stop Lincoln Memorial. Well worth the climb up the steps (with millions of others) to look down on the reflecting pool and across to the Washington Monument.En savoir plus

Yesterday was one of those days, caught up on sleep then decided to get out of our cramped quarters, out into a very wet & windy day, even had my umbrella turn inside out. Very cold too. Thank goodness for Starbucks on every second corner. The four of us made an executive decision to go back home. Julie and Mark ventured again and bought provisions and the most needed pack of cards, pity they did that really as they anhilated Mike & I at 500.En savoir plus

The Bronx

Today we travelled to the Bronx and went to the zoo, believe it or not!! Arriving at the gate we were confronted by around 100 school buses and hundreds of kids - just our luck but the zoo is over 200 acres and we hardly saw the kids, 😊 The zoo was great, we did an enormous amount of walking, also taking the monorail for a short time. Good to get home and put our feet up. Julie and I have become adept at going out to the local grocery store for provisions.En savoir plus

Central Park

After quick uber from Battery Park to Central Park, and a quick lunch nearby we took a horse and gig ride for 45 mins through Central Park. Our horseman was a typical Irishman with an accent we picked immediately. He was a chatty Irishman pointing out all the movie sites in the park and where the celebrities reside.En savoir plus

6.15am start this morning, uber to Battery Park to catch the ferry with MANY others, fortunately only twenty in our tour group. Tour guide knowledgable but bit long winded. Lady Liberty is a massive structure, one can only wonder, and with the knowledge we have now it is an absolute miracle that they achieved the build with no loss of life. Left there & ferried to Ellis Island where so many immigrants arrived for their new life in the US.En savoir plus

On a lighter note we zoomed up 67 stories in the elevator and then one by escalator, one by stairs - WOW is what three of us thought, Mark was a little less enthused!!!! 360 degree views.

The Big Apple

Wow, this is massive, getting out of Penn Station a mission and a half, thank goodness for Mr Uber and IT Manager Julie. Our apartment is 'long and narrow ' but has everything we want. First on the itinerary was Ground Zero, a real highlight with great tour guide. Very moving and well done, in fact, very humbling. A must do for anyone who comes to New York, it is hard to describe our individual feelings, you need to experience this yourselves in order to appreciate the gravity of the event.En savoir plus

Train to New York via the coast

As usual arrived at station well before time!!! Train on time, comfortable seats with plenty of leg room. Picturesque coast with lovely homes, especially New London, CONNETICUT where we nearly ended up instead of New London, New Hampshire after a botch up with our reservations, thank god we figured it out and made the graduation.En savoir plus
