• Food

    November 8, 2024 in Costa Rica ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

Food. Cheap food is served in places called Sodas. It is cheap and cheerful. They have menus but it's irrelevant because the all serve Breakfast if the day, Lunch of the day, and dinner of the day! In small, medium or large servings. It's whatever they have, the only certainty is that it will come with rice!
However, there are an inordinate number of restaurants here with all the American chains and lots of fried chicken places

We pushed the boat out and went to a Colombia restaurant, as above, with a large glass of wine each £20 odd .

  • Trying to leave

    November 8, 2024 in Costa Rica ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

Went to try and book our ticket to next stop (Cahuit on the Caribbean coast). Should have been simple; bus to airport (no problem) and there should have been a connection bus to MEPE bus terminal. Alas, no information anywhere. Tried airport, no luck. Tried asking no luck. Eventually decided to go into San Jose to see if we could fair better. Now it's torrential ☔ rain! No information in bus station noone had a clue. So big failure. We are heading to bus terminal, by taxi!, tomorrow without a ticket. And no, you can't book online!Read more

  • Rescate wildlife rescue centre

    November 8, 2024 in Costa Rica ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

Visited this place, well worth it. Tried out the local buses, £1:10 flat rate wherever they go!

Lots to see, claims not to be a zoo, but only houses abandoned or sick animals. Unfortunately some are so badly injured or too tame to be released into the wild.Read more

  • Alajuela City

    November 8, 2024 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

This is where we are staying the capital is San Jose which is 15 Kms away although they sorta run into one another. It's low rise rambling sort of place. Not exactly a tourist hangout as there's little to see but you have to start either here or San José.Read more

  • Hotel

    November 7, 2024 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Our hotel guest house is great and old 159 year old colonial house that's been converted. Got taxi here from airport (10 USD not bad for 2 o'clock in the morning). Of course he took us to the wrong place first!!Read more

  • ARRIVED San Jose, Costa Rica

    November 6, 2024 in Costa Rica ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Arrived!!!! Flight delayed by almost 4 hours and they had to request that the airport be kept open for 2 hours longer (normally closes at midnight) otherwise we wouldn't have gotten here today.

  • Hassel to the last

    June 26, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

About to try and get our flight to UK. Yesterday arrived Porto took car back no problems, got courtesy bus to airport and having a beer but did not receive covid results. Back to hotel and they phoned clinic an hour before they closed. Got the results after that at 16:30,. Went out got totally pissed now 3:30 in the morning about to try and get 6:00 flight. Fuck easyJet, fuck Boris, fuck Matt Hancock, or more to the point fuck his advisor!! How that prick can stay in government beggers belief. Chances of me self isolating? • Getting ready

    June 24, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

We are winding down now, although 'being wound up' would be a better description! Thank you Boris! Been trying to book a day 8 test only as we already purchased the day 2 before we left. This has proved to be impossible. Everyone wants to sell you the day2/day8 package at 200 quid a pop.

Anyway we managed to complete our passenger locator forms using our day 2 reference only and will now buy 1 day2/ day8 package, after all is the same sodding test.

Had a few nice nights sitting in the local square and off to a BBQ for lunch. Got a pre departure covid booked for 11 am tomorrow and then drive to Porto. Night in hotel to get ridiculously early 6:30 flight to Stanstead, then midday bus to Luton to pick up car. Be home Saturday Inshalla!

Pic is of boring washing but has to be done and our local village square

So after 3 ,years of living in a caravan the house is now, sort of, habitable. Still needs solar electrics completed and a kitchen built!Read more

  • A local restsurant

    June 22, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Went out for a meal at one of the nearby local restaurants, very good value for money. The first pic is my belly pork which with a dessert , coffee and 2 beers came to 9.50 euro. The second pic is of the pork hock which with the crafe of wine also cost 9.50 a bargain.

Weather been shit for the passed few days, had rain and it's unseasonal cold. But I think this strange weather is all over Europe including UK. A few days ago it almost reached 30 and will do so again on Thursday so just s blip.

    June 20, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Went for a lunch time drink to meet some friends in a old town called Coja. Typical village square with bars and cafes, but a bit quite now as a result of covid. Would normally be market day but that was cancelled.Read more

    June 18, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

  • Just a portugese village

    June 17, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

While driving to town to go shopping we pasted this small village with some Roman remains. The arch, pillars and some of the road/square are Roman.

Also, the village still had the community clothes washing station (last pic).

There small cobbled stone villages like this all over the area.

  • Back in Ollie

    June 16, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

After our 4 day break in Tomar we are now back in Oliveira do Hospital. Actual we stay in a much smaller town called Travancia De Beria but you wouldn't find that on a map!
Got under 2 weeks left now, so already booked Ryanair back to UK. Just hope it actually leaves! Got to pay for another covid test on day 5 and arrange another test here before we leave for airport. Got to cancel easyJet and start compensation/expense claim for cancelled flight. Just another relaxing vacation, thank you Boris!Read more

  • Ourem

    June 15, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Yet another castle! Last one I promise! Actually closed for rebuilding works so I had to climb over barriers to get in, but this is Portugal, so no one minds. Another Templar construction.

Had a serious amount of rain last night, almost biblical portions. Eating outside at the time but the huge sun umbrella kept the rain off till we finished our meal and as we couldn't leave was ' forced' to have a second bottle of wine. Food was great. I had turkey Cordon Bleu, Lynne had pork steak with boiled spuds and broccoli. That plus olives to start and 2 bottles of wine total cost 26 euro! Beat that anywhere in the euro zone!!Read more

  • Templar castle at Tomar

    June 14, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

A bit out of sequence here. This is the Templar castle that adjoins the convent shown earlier. The castle now just consists of its walls the walk around them is free.

  • Amoural castle

    June 12, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

A Templar castle built on the remains of a Roman fort. It resides on a small island and 4 euros gets you a return boat ride and enterance to the castle. The top part has been rebuilt with the original stones so its complete. Again you allowed to walk all along the top of the walls which don't have safety barriers. On the boat not a life jacket to be seen! Nice to be in a country that treats you as an adult, rather that a child guided by Health and safety crapp.Read more

  • Covento de cristo

    June 11, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

This is the convent that the viaduct was built for. High on the hill overlooking the town is this amazing place. Walled for defence and near the castle it is very large and ornate.

  • Tomar viaduct

    June 11, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Amazing viaduct built in 1500 to bring water to the convent in Tamor. No one there you can walk alone the top of the viaduct if you want. I did see 1 girl doing that, must have a head for heights no it's no bugs, fall and you're dead.Read more

  • Tamor

    June 10, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Had to move out of our accomodation for 4 days so we booked a place in Tamor. This is an historic city built by the Knights Templar. Lovely old part of town dominated by castle. Loads of restaurants and food is more varied than Ollie, but a bit more expensive. Had pork with cockles, obligaty pile of chips and rice, Lynne had lamb plus bottle of wine 30 euros . Very hot.

Booked flight with Ryanair for same date as our easyJet flight but flying into Stanstead (car is at Luton). No easyJet flights from Porto until 26JULY.

  • F*** Boris , his unelected lab rats & Ea

    June 8, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Well after an amazingly short 3 weeks Portugal is back on the Amber list! How is that even possible? They are playing games with people's lives, mental health, well being and finances. After the mass evacuation from here to beat the amber dead line, Easy jet have cancelled all out going flights for the rest of June! So with the car parked at the long term park at Luton we are looking for new return flights. Might be lucky with a Ryan air flight that fly's into Stanstead other than that it will be Gatwick or Heathrow and a trek to retrieve the car
Will never vote for Boris or his lab rats again!!!
