San Martino, Ardenno & Bagni Masino
9. heinäkuuta 2024, Italia ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C
The Bagni di Masino, the regenerative thermal baths, are what put this otherwise seldom visited location on the map from the XVI century onwards, when the nobility would come up to take the waters and remain a popular tourist destination to this day. Legend has it that these restorative waters had happened upon by chance, when a particularly stubborn cow, refusing to drink from the torrent, carried on up the mountain, choosing instead to drink from the hot springs and thus producing more milk than the other cows.
The first documented information about the Bagni di Masino dates back to the 15th century. In a letter of 1462 from the podestà of Morbegno to the Duke of Milan Francesco Sforza, the presence of a bath was noted that exploited the waters "flowing in the Val Màsino, among the beautiful Alpine valleys, healthy waters for every languor" [1]. At the beginning of the 16th century, the baths are mentioned by Matteo Bandello in his novels. In the letter that precedes the XXIII novella, he recalls that in summer he often went to "La Valtellina to admire those frescoes of Caspano and Bagni di Màsino" [2]. In the letter that precedes the XLIII novella, he says that "while the heat lasted ... one day I went to the Bagni del Màsino for pleasure, I found many gentlemen from Milan and Como" [3]. In 1545, the first medical work dedicated to the Baths was published in Venice. The author, Doctor Pietro Paolo Paravicini, highlighted the presence of a hotel, although "rough and unadorned", and "wooden houses" where guests rested. The work describes the chemical composition of the water and the different applications for treating skin diseases, migraines, eye problems, liver problems, arthritis and many other illnesses [4]. Giovanni Guler von Weineck, governor (1587-1588) of the valley for the Republic of the Three Leagues, in his work Raetia (1616) devotes a large space to the Baths. According to Guler, the water "accumulates inside the rock and, guided by pipes, reaches two different tubs, beautiful and spacious; one for men and the other for women". Next door was a small hotel with a few rooms and stoves. The Guler especially emphasized the virtues of water which was used as a drink, for baths and showers. [5] . After a period of abandonment, a new building was built in 1832, the thermal baths were then accessible by the Civo - Ponte del Baffo road, obviously on foot or by mule, despite the difficulties of access between 1836 and 1845 it welcomed 3000 customers. The carriage road that goes up from Ardenno was built in 1847. From 1850, assistance by qualified medical personnel began. The baths were particularly suitable for gynecological treatments and to promote fertility, they were popularly called the Ladies' Baths [6] . After a further period of closure, in 2009, the center was completely renovated, adapting it to standards and needs of today. On February 16, 2015, the thermal baths were closed due to the danger of landslides Masino Baths.

Macacnuga

Macugnaga (Walser German: Z'Makana) is a mountain village and a comune at 1,327 metres (4,354 ft) elevation, in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, in the north of the Piedmont region of Italy.
Valle Anzasca
It is located at the base of Monte Rosa (4,638 metres (15,217 ft)), the second-tallest mountain in western Europe, along Valle Anzasca, one of the seven valleys around the mount.
Sights in the town include the Chiesa Vecchia (old church) and its linden also of the 13th century, the Chiesa Nuova (new church) built in 1707, the 17th century Casa Pala. The town also houses a museum of mountaineering, while in the hamlet of Borca is the Walser Museum, devoted to the local German population who colonised the valley during the Middle Ages coming from the Swiss canton Wallis.
The parish church.
The area gives many opportunities for skiing in winter (a cableway brings from the central square of the town to the 3000 m (9800 ft) of the Passo del Monte Moro on the border with Switzerland), and hiking and mountaineering in summer. The village is also known for its mine Miniera della Guia.
The territory is characterised by numerous rivers, some of which are Horlovono, Pedriola, Tambach, Testa / Tieschtbach, Quarazza / Kratz and Val Rossa, all of them coming from Anza / Vispu. This last one is born from the union between the Belvedere Glacier. A lot of small lakes can be found around the village, as well as a dam, known as Lago delle Fate (lake of the fairies).
Dorf
The Dorf is an area of the village of Macugnaga, located near the Old Church and its cemetery, where the ancient huts made of larch trunks, in which the Walser community used to live, are located. The houses followed the style of the Nordic populations: they were made of larch wood to protect its inhabitants from the cold weather. They were equipped with a stove together with an oven, there was also a kitchen, two bedrooms and a cellar. In the most recent structures, the kitchen was built in brickwork to prevent the risk of fires. Other buildings, apart from the houses, can include farmhouses with a stable and a barn.
In the Dorf, there is also a traditional stone bakery oven which was used by the Walser people once a year to bake bread. It was an important moment for the community to ensure food supplies in the following months.Lue lisää

Passo Del Monte Moro
20. heinäkuuta 2024, Italia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C
The Monte Moro Pass is an Alpine pass located on the border between Switzerland and Italy. It connects Saas-Almagell in the Swiss canton of Valais to Macugnaga, Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, in the Italian region of Piedmont. The pass lies at the foot of Monte Moro.
Already known in Roman times, it had great importance over the centuries for communication between the Alpine valleys. The pass was also used for the movement of Walser populations from the Swiss valleys to the Italian valleys. In more recent times it has seen the passage of smugglers carrying goods between the two neighboring states.
In winter, the pass is frequented for its ski fields served not only by cable cars, but also by a two-seater chairlift and a ski lift. Near the pass on the Italian side is the Gaspare Oberto-Paolo Maroli Refuge. Near the pass there is the Emerald Lake.
It can be reached from Macugnaga via the Macugnaga-Bill-Passo Moro cable car and is included in the hiking route of the Monte Rosa Tour. If you choose to climb to the pass via a path, the pass can be reached from Macugnaga in about 4 hours. From the Swiss side it can be reached in about two hours of walking starting from Lake Mattmark which is located at the bottom of the Saastal.
The statue of Our Lady of the Snows was placed a few meters from the border between Italy and Switzerland and was inaugurated on August 5, 1966. It is the work of the sculptor Giuseppe Banda. The statue, about 5 meters high, portrays the Madonna in a slender form and with the sperada on her head.
From the arrival of the cable car, you first go up with a few steps to Lake Smeraldo and then through a partially equipped path you reach the statue of the Madonna.Lue lisää
