    Platzspitz Park

    Platzspitz Park is located behind Landesmuseum, where the Limmat and Sihl rivers meet.

    Drahtschmidlisteg is a small bridge from which folks like to jump into Limatt (yes, Jeanine I'm very jealous 😊)

    The rains finally came during the night and continued through 1st part of the morning.
    The air feels much cooler, but it's still very humid.

    While the meat and cheese remained the same, the bakery products du-jour are Swiss pretzel and Olive bread

    Late 1800s church with a bell tower & colonnaded interior modeled after the early basilicas of Rome.

    Background and History:
    In the 19th century, Zurich experienced a high influx of Catholics from Eastern and Central Switzerland. The need for another Catholic church (besides St. Peter and Paul) in the Zwingli city of Zurich grew. Due to religious reservations, the construction of a Catholic church on the shores of Lake Zurich failed. However, in order to make Zurich a more attractive trading center to the Catholic estates, construction at the current location was finally approved.

    The Catholic side also expressed defiance. To clearly distinguish the building from Reformed churches, the architect August Hardegger sought to align it with the churches of Papal Rome. The choice of the Virgin Mary as the church's patron saint was also intended to emphasize the distinction from the Reformed denomination.

    For this style, the structure of the building is typical of a main and two side aisles. Built from 1893 to 1894 according to the plans of the architect August Hardegger (1858–1927), it is the only Zurich church in late antique architectural style.

    Church tower and bells
    The tower of the Church of Our Lady clearly bears references to Italian models. Its design is reminiscent of campanili, the freestanding Romanesque bell towers, and thus provides a deliberate contrast to the city's other church towers.

    The chime consists of six bronze bells, consecrated in 1897 and mounted in the tower. The heaviest bell weighs 3,300 kg and is tuned to B-flat; the lightest weighs 250 kg. Every Saturday evening at 7 p.m., the bells ring in Sunday for 15 minutes, along with those of the other churches in the city center.

    The High Altar

    The church's high altar and pulpit were designed by August Hardegger, and the tabernacle and the cross in the high altar were made by the Central Swiss artist Josef Rickenbacher. The free-standing altar, ambo, and candleholders were designed by the architect Otto Glaus.

    Spied that on nearby roof, again, the best I could do with the phone. Looks like Atlas with the World on his shoulders

    This dude was staring at me every single day, and every time, we were returning from the Old Town to the apartment.
    Looks like he's got a large shell in his hand, so I'm not sure if he's John The Baptist. The "finger" though is quite irritating 😑... even if it's not really that.

    Then I saw the sign(..and it opened up my eyes... I saw the sign)... and thought the sculptures name was Awel, but upon a 2nd glance and a thought, came to the conclusion that I was wrong.

    Our 2nd church of the day comes to us from...

    Predigerkirche is one of the four main churches of the old town of Zürich, Switzerland, besides Fraumünster, Grossmünster and St. Peter. First built in 1231 AD as a Romanesque church of the then Dominican Predigerkloster, the Basilica was converted in the first half of the 14th century, the choir between 1308 and 1350 rebuilt, and a for that time unusual high bell tower was built, regarded as the highest Gothic edifice in Zürich.

    And what a way to finish off the night and somewhat symbolically the whole stay/trip!!

    We attended a Tibute to Ennio Morricone "Filmsinfonic" concert at Tonhalle Zurich.
    A beautiful building, The Tonhalle has been Zurich's concert hall since 1895 , home to the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich , founded in 1868. The venue was held in Grosse Tonhalle hall, with its famous acoustics, which offers 1,430 seats (yet doesn't look "that big").

    And of course the music itself!!!! Although understandably verbotten, I (aso understandably), couldn't help myself and clandestinely recorded a small piece of the last set (which should be familiar to everyone).

    3 encores were given; none unfortunately were my favorite piece, "Le Vent, Le Cri", (translates to "The Wind, The Cry" in English). It was featured in the 1981 film Le Professionnel, and in itself is a variation of Morricone's "Chi Mai" (Italian: whoever), composition written in 1971, when it was first used in the film Maddalena.

    We're having Chalet Suisse special, which includes Muesli cereal, fruit, a roll and a croissant with butter and jams
    As usual Laurie is drinking Café Americano and I - Cappuccino

    The trip from town couldn't be less painful. Everything was moving along quite sufficiently, and aside of a short wait by the AA counter at the airport proper, we breezed through it all.
