Gram and Pop arrived in Dublin today! Dad left early this morning to teach so Mom and I met them at their hotel down the road. We all went to the bakery and brought pastries back to our house. We ate and chatted for a while, then got a second wind and decided to walk around. So, we walked to Devitt’s for a pint (a water and sandwich for me) and continued towards St. George’s Arcade. We did a loop and ended up at the Hairy Lemon for a late lunch before walking home. Gram and Pop grabbed their bag and left for the hotel while Mom and I did basically nothing for a few hours. I had ramen and a banana for dinner before Dad finally came home and we watched Only Murders In The Building.Read more

  • Thrift Shop - Macklemore

    October 4, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Though we didn’t go thrift shopping today, we did go to many other stores. However, we first went out to brunch down the street. After a lovely meal, Dad parted ways with us to meet with a student while us four took the tram towards the city center. We went to 3 sweater shops, 3 misc. and then a pub. Approximately 2 1/2 hours later we were headed home. Gram and Pop went to their hotel and Mom and I went home. All of us chilled for a while until Mom and I went to basketball. Practice was great and soon we were back home, eating random stuff before we leave tomorrow.Read more

  • Castle On The Hill - Ed Sheeran

    October 5, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

We woke up in the dark this morning to catch our ride to Ashford Castle. The drive took three hours — others chatted as I napped. When we arrived, our driver Kieran was very kind and gave us a quick tour of the grounds before dropping us at The Lodge. For another 2 1/2 hours we sat in front of the fire, drinking and eating lunch. Around 2:10 we all put on waterproof gear to brave the outdoors, and the shuttle brought us to the falconry. We were met by our lovely guide Rory, who gave us a quick rundown of the birds before we took two hawks on a walk. It was incredible, having the hawks flying around and landing on your arm. After an amazing few hours, we went back to the Lodge and chilled. My parents and I got drinks at half six, then met Gram and Pop for dinner. Our meals were delicious and my risotto was unlike anything I’d had before. We ended the night downstairs for… more drinks!Read more

  • Galway Girl - Ed Sheeran

    October 6, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Another Ed Sheeran song today, though this one also seems quite fitting. Mom, Gram and I went for a hike with the estate’s wolfhounds before breakfast this morning. After getting thoroughly soaked, we walked back to the lodge and joined the men for a lovely meal. We then packed our bags into our driver’s car and headed to Galway. There we shopped, drank, and explored. About 2 hours later we got back on the road to Dublin. Halfway there, we stopped at the oldest pub in Ireland for more drinks and a quick break. Eventually we made it home and parted ways with Gram and Pop. We chilled for a while, ordered a pizza for dinner and watched some of the Italy vs France Rugby game.Read more

  • We Are The Champions - Queen

    October 7, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

The Irish rugby team beat Scotland tonight, so today’s title works well! We all slept in today and enjoyed the nice weather. Gram and Pop came bearing breakfast around 10 and we chatted for a while. Eventually, we left for the tram, dropping Pop at the hotel. Dad stayed at home to write a book review. In the afternoon, he ran 10 miles. Mom, Gram, and I went shopping around St. Stephens’s Green for a few hours. At 2 o’clock we stopped for a light lunch at The Bank Bar. Taking the tram back, we relaxed at home for another couple of hours before meeting for dinner at I Monelli. There we had a lovely Italian meal and headed to a local pub after to watch the first half of the Ireland-Scotland game. The second half was watched in our respective flats, but not less enjoyable. A big win.Read more

  • Bye Bye Bye - *NSYNC

    October 8, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

We said farewell to Gram and Pop tonight, but before then we had quite the day. We met at their hotel around 10:15 and took the tram to a DART Station, where we caught a train to Dun Laoghaire. Arriving at 11:30, we explored the coast and Sunday market. Dad and Pop walked the length of the pier while the rest of us ate our lunch. We all met at the beginning of the pier and went back to the market so Pop could buy an art piece. Afterwards we stopped into the library for a bit, then got ice cream and headed back to Dublin. With a few hours spent not doing much, we met at Mcafferty’s at 7 for drinks, food and music. Around 9 we said our goodbyes due to Gram and Pop’s early cab in the morning.Read more

    October 9, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Our warm weather has kept up here with temperatures staying in the low 70s today. So, Mom and I figured it was a good time to walk and get groceries. Dad went running while we were in the midst of our shopping and we all met back at the house. We all did some nondescript stuff for a while before Dad walked to UCD. Mom and I spent the afternoon reading, working and snacking. Eventually I went for a quick run and Mom used her resistance bands. Afterwards, we chilled for another 90 mins until Dad came home. We then put our hosting clothes on and whipped up some pizzas for Richard (Dad’s UAlbany colleague) and his family. They were visiting since his son, Ben, goes to Trinity. After a lovely evening of food and conversation, we said our goodbyes and retired to bed.Read more

  • I’m Gonna Be - The Proclaimers

    October 10, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Dad left early this morning for UCD, leaving Mom and I to our NYT quizzes. (I got the Wordle in 2 guesses today!) We left at 10:30 and walked 45 mins to Phoenix Park. From the gates, we walked to the cafe for a quick snack before going to the zoo. “Zoo” is quite the understatement! The habitats were replicated so well that the African Savanna really felt as if we were on another continent. After spending about 2.5 hours with the animals, we dragged ourselves home. Although, we made a quick stop at the running store and I got a new pair of well needed sneakers. Crashing at home, we had linner and chilled before Dad came home. We did nothing for another few hours as we were all tired, but came together to watch Loki (season 2!!) and Only Murders In The Building.Read more

The temperature dropped about 20 degrees Fahrenheit last night, which made today quite crisp. On top of that, it rained all morning. So Mom, Dad, and I spent our morning working, reading and chilling. Eventually Mom and I went out to buy ingredients for a bread recipe. We prepared some fruit to be soaked overnight and went back to working. Around 5 o’clock we headed to basketball. After a good practice we left for home and had a quick meal while finishing season two of Only Murders In The Building.Read more

    October 12, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

The highlight of my day was definitely going to the Dublin Animal Shelter with Mom. We spent our morning working and—surprise, surprise—playing NYT games. We also tried a recipe for tea brack which tastes pretty good! Around noon the two of us left for the bus stop and took two buses before walking to the shelter. We spent time with the cats, dogs, birds and more before grabbing a snack at the cafe. After a nice loop around the trail, we took a taxi home. The three of us had a chill afternoon. Mom and Dad went out for drinks while I stayed home and had a dance party. By 8 we all were hungry so I boiled up some gnocchi that we ate while starting season 3 of Only Murders In The Building.Read more

  • Last Friday Night - Katy Perry

    October 13, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌙 8 °C

Although our night/day was much quieter than today’s song, we had a lovely time. For all of us, this morning was spent working. Mom and I left for IMMA, the Irish Museum of Modern Art. We spent the next few hours exploring and soaking in the pure creativity of the space. Instead of walking home like we had to the museum, we opted for the tram as it became quite stormy. Reunited, the three spent our afternoon around the house. Dad went for a run while Mom and I made stir fry for an early dinner. We left for Ranelagh to meet Dad’s colleague Catherine and her husband Will for drinks. Together we chatted the evening away. After saying farewell, we ended the night by watching Loki.Read more

My team won some quick games and before we knew it, the hour was over. After our tram ride home, we stopped at a pub for lunch. By 2, we were chilling at home. Mom and I left for Rathmines at 4, eventually walking to St. Stephen’s Green. We arrived home with charcuterie and wine for the evening. Settling in for the night, we awaited the Ireland vs New Zealand game. Once on, the match was eagerly watched by the three of us. Though the end was unfortunate for Ireland, they had a great run.Read more

You’ll never guess where Mom and I went today! After a short breakfast, we got ready for the day and left around 11. The 140 bus took us directly to the warehouse 45 minutes later. For 2 hours, we explored the displays, ate mildly good food, and bought 3 things. We caught the bus back to Rathmines, where we ended up at Dunnes to grocery shop. By 4 o’clock we made it home, where Dad was writing. He’d run 12.5 miles while we were out. The next few hours were spent chilling or working. Mom and Dad went out for a glass of wine in the neighborhood and I had a dance party. We made delicious risotto and chicken for dinner! Afterwards, Mom and I watched Gilmore Girls while Dad finished a lecture.Read more

Afterwards, we did some planning for the upcoming week and I did my schoolwork. Eventually we headed to Spar for baking ingredients and Guinness. An hour later, I made my cookies while Mom assembled pizzas for dinner. Dad arrived home just as the food was ready, so we all chatted about our day. He had reading to catch up on, so we all parted ways for the night.Read more

Dad left for UCD early this morning and left Mom and I to our work. I spent the day doing schoolwork while Mom planned the next few days when we have guests! The two of us did get out of the house to buy a puzzle and some pillows. Eventually we came home and had an early dinner. Dad arrived home around quarter to 6, and we left for the Arctic Monkeys concert shortly after. The tram brought us to 3Arena smoothly and we had an incredible time!! Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and we had to head home around 11. We’re all exhausted and ready for bed.Read more

  • Hello - Adele

    October 18, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Ama and Papa arrived in Dublin today! I met them at our bus stop and dragged them to our flat. We had drinks and pastries ready to pep them up! By noon they were fading again so the four of us (Dad had to work) left for The Little Museum of Dublin. Our guide was hilarious throughout the tour and it kept us awake for an hour. Afterwards, we had a late lunch at Avoca. At home, we chilled for over an hour until my basketball game. The four of us headed back out and hopped on the tram towards the school I play at. My team won a few scrimmages against the same group we played on Saturday. Later, we trekked through the rain and arrived home safe and sound. Papa and Ama crashed (hard!) in my room and I set myself up downstairs, where I’m writing now.Read more

The five of us slept in late today and chit-chatted most of the morning. By 11 we were getting hungry, so we left for one of our favorite restaurants, Peperdina. After a lovely lunch we parted ways with Dad so he could write in peace. The remaining four of us went to Trinity College to see the book of Kells. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as interesting as the photos we had seen online. But the library itself was beautiful and we were all glad to have gone. Walking back towards home, we stopped for dessert and drinks nearby. We also stopped in one of our favorite stores for Ama and Papa to see. We trudged home in a heavy rainstorm. For the next hours we just chilled. Around 7, Dad and Papa went out for a pint. They got home just as I was getting ready for bed.Read more

Unfortunately for us, today was even rainier and windier than yesterday. We spent most of our morning inside. Dad snuck off to our neighborhood coffee shop to finish a paper that’s due today. He came home for a couple hours, then left for a big Fulbright orientation in Dun Laoghaire. The rest of us decided to brave the ugly weather for lunch at McCaffery’s. After a lovely meal, we collected some baking ingredients at a nearby market. The next few hours were spent lying around or puzzling until Ama and I made our cheese bread. We proceeded to eat said cheese bread while playing Uno. Later into the evening, we had takeaway and watched The Adam Project. Dad arrived home by 10:30 and we all caught up before heading to bed.Read more

  • Whiskey In The Jar - The Dubliners

    October 21, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ⛅ 7 °C

This morning flew by, as we all slept in pretty late and didn’t have any plans. Ama, Papa, Mom and I walked to St. George’s Market around noon to explore the area. We made it to our ring making class at 1, where we spent the next few hours creating our unique silver bands. After a lovely time, we stopped nearby for a quick snack plate before meeting Dad at the Jameson Distillery. Even though I can’t drink whiskey, the tour was still enjoyable and interesting. We learned about the company’s history, how different types of Jameson are made, and the adults had a chance to taste multiple versions of whiskey. We wrapped up there and left for home where we rejuvenated for an hour. 7:30 brought dinner, we had reservations for Celtic night in Temple Bar. There, we enjoyed watching dancers and musicians perform, and eating lots. We came home around 10:30 and got in bed shortly afterwards.Read more

Once again, we spent our morning playing NYT games and eating pastries. We left for the tram at noon, and transferred to the DART. The train took us all the way to Malahide, a beautiful coastal town North of Dublin. We walked around the lovely village and shore for a few hours. I found the sea to feel familiar and almost homey, especially near the cozy town. We had linner at the Greedy Goose, an Irish Tapas restaurant. The meal lasted the next 2 1/2 hours, and we each had incredible meals — probably my favorite since we got here. Around half five, we wandered to Malahide Castle. After exploring the gorgeous grounds, we headed back home and had a quiet night reading and playing Uno.Read more

  • Andy Warhol - David Bowie

    October 25, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

I slept in once again and spent the late morning doing math and organizing stuff. Mom and I left around 12:30 for the Andy Warhol exhibit at the Hugh Lane Gallery. The art was incredible! Andy’s classic pieces on consumer items were on proud display along with other darker pieces I hadn’t heard of. His collection on death as a concept felt very humane and I found it to be quite profound. After this eye opening experience, Mom and I went home with a stop for tea on the way. I got ready for basketball and Dad and I headed to practice. An hour later, we arrived home to dinner, which was followed by a screening of Only Murders In The Building.Read more
