Oturehua, Otago Rail Trail & Ophir

Karin and Pam cycled the Poolburn Gorge section of the Otago Rail Trail today. We started in Oturehua in the oldest continuously operated shop in NZ - Gilchrists' General Store. We went to Hayes Engineering next but it was closed! Once the girls were on their way, David & Mark drove to Lauder toward for them. Karin got a front wheel puncture 8km from the end. Pam was going to ride out and Mark go back to fix it but a good Samaritan rode up and fixed it for her. They made good time apart from the puncture.
After that it was wine and hot chips in Omakau, then a visit to the gold rush era town of Ophir and it's bridge built in 1880.
The spa and a dinner of spaghetti bol (thanks Pam!) ended the day.
Time to move on - but not far.Leer más
