Interesting to see at first but not all that unusual as this is a coastal rainforest. We're only about 10km from the ocean.
This plant is endemic to Gabon. So recently discovered it has not yet been given a scientific name. There is a lot of hope that it will someday produce a cure for one of our many diseases.
Use to treat malaria by using bark to produce a beverage that is drunk 2-3 times a day.
Also known as "Red Ironwood" it produces a strong timber that can be used for heavy construction projects. It's bark can be used as a headache remedy.
Impressively colorful bark.
Sap used to treat snake bites. Dries on skin like "Liquid Band-aid".
Another "Giant" in this coastal rainforest.
