  • Columbo Airport

    July 2, 2025 in Sri Lanka ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

28 hours later, I'm not sure I could have done much longer, first flight Fox was a bit ruff with gas pains, breaking out in a sweat popping pills left right and center. , got over that, then got a bleeding nose, recons he's going home via a boat. 🤣we're off to the hotel for a sleep, getting picked up at 10 for an 8hr car ride. Bring on the sights.Read more

  • Canowin - water stop for the driver

    July 2, 2025 in Sri Lanka ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Well, when in Rome they say, # Sri Lanka, do as the locals do.
So we did 😂 Betle Juice,
Like eating a dry, bitter crunchy weetbix but far worse.
The spitting was ruff, felt so wrong so imagine 2 white chick's try to hide on the side of the road, with a case of the giggles, spitting red juice waiting to see what sort of hit was gonna come, our driver thought we were a hoot, videoed us and told his mates, while laughing, we can't speak the language but didn't need to,
Spent the next 30 minutes picking it out of our teeth.
Woozy feeling but very short lived, hence why they chew it all day. 🤢

  • Lunch time

    July 2, 2025 in Sri Lanka ⋅ 🌬 34 °C

We had Something that resembled a egg and potato turn over and a vegetable one, tasty enough going in will see if they rumble the tummy, we were put off the rice and curry as the flys looked like they were having a blast se we left it for them .
This place is just off the motorway, as we head into more rural Sir Lanka.

  • Hot so so hot

    July 3, 2025 in Sri Lanka ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Long beach walk in the heat of the day with no sunscreen... not our smartest move, but we didn't have many clothes on so when we reached the Buddhist temple that had actual Buddhas in wrapoed in orange, we felt a bit exposed so didn't hang around long, luckily a Tuktuk found us and delivered us back to the pool, we were in full melt, lost a fair bit of gravey.
Then, down the street for some shopping, cocktails, and dinner.
Days seem to last a lot longer over here 🤣

  • Surfing at Peanut farm

    July 4, 2025 in Sri Lanka ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

Surf lessons at 0630 this morning, good fun, water in places it shouldn't be, stood up briefly, takes a few unused muscles to get the hang of it.
Might take a few more seasons to become pro 🤔

  • Pool side

    July 4, 2025 in Sri Lanka ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Brekkie is done and dusted, off to buy a hat then we are pool side for a bit, the midday heat makes doing normal things rather hard, zaps the energy levels for sure.

  • Shopping trip and not a thing brought 🤣

    July 4, 2025 in Sri Lanka ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Nice to have a walk, bloody hot, we were all dripping, so we had to have a few beersie stops along the way.
Learned about the rice harvest, the locals thought we were there as business dealers cutting in on their rice deals. 🤭Read more

  • Potuvil

    July 5, 2025 in Sri Lanka ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

Well, even medicated, I struggled with the overwhelming bartering and bullying that goes on between stool holders. It's very cutthroat, and having 🍍 thrust in your face is some what provoking but punching an old lady with no teeth seemed a tad mean. So, I paid them 600LKR and scarpered 🤣😂Read more

  • Tamil temple, very old

    July 8, 2025 in Sri Lanka ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

This is where the Tamil people pray, apparently it's very old. The tree was massive and hollow, looks like they burn incense and place offerings inside the tree.

  • Umir, wetlands

    July 8, 2025 in Sri Lanka ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

This is a smaller wet land, bigger one is just to the South.
In the wet season, this fills up right to the top of the roadside.
This area early evening and early morning is considered very dangerous. The elephants roam freely, and the locals are very wary and scared of them.
At night the crocodiles sleep right by the road, so no one goes out at night there.
There were so many birds that looked like our Koutuku/white heron.
Our tuktuk driver told us his name was "today" butthen he shared that his real name from birth was "Relax"😂 he showed us around his village, we saw his sister who owns the shop, his brother owns a chicken farm, was keen to look but was worried we would never eat chicken again.
Then bless him he brought us some corn, he was great, chatted the whole way and we understood 1/2 of it 🤣😂, we went far further than first negotiated and he was still only going to charge the agreed amount so he was very grateful when we gave him double.
We went past an area that was being minded for gems, Ruby's, Diamond, etc. we got the impression that it was being done by monks, about 1000 of them, not allowed in, but no surprises there.

  • School

    July 8, 2025 in Sri Lanka ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

School is the refuge during Tsunami and high water during the wet season.
Picked up our Tuktuk drivers nephew, saved him a long walk home.
He was only a little short guy, I honestly thought he was about 7 or 8, but he was 11 😳 such a cutie, though.Read more
