  • The Color Green!

    May 24, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 64 °F

It is just a beautiful day as we head across the state of Indiana, reminds me of an amazing song by Rich Mullins called “The Color Green.”

“Be praised for all your tenderness by these words of your hands, Suns that rise and rains that fall to bless and bring to life your land. Look down upon the winter wheat and be glad that you have made, blue for the sky and the color green that fills these fields of praise.”

  • Even more critters!

    May 24, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

Although we were sad not to see the pygmy hippo, we were so impressed with the lions at the Lincoln Park zoo, as well as a variety of other beautiful animals. And folks! It is free! Go check it out.

We did meet a guy in the entrance of the parking lot who is definitely a Chicago native (you know, the kind that gruffly says, “Da Bears!”), but we weren’t bold enough to videotape him.

  • And in the End….

    May 24, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

With the completion of our evaluation of Abbey Road, we have listened to all of the Beatles albums! We still have to do some evaluation of their top singles - so we complete that before we get home this week!

Spoiler alert: Both Joey and Chris believe that Abbey Road is the best Beatles album.

  • Baby Pope lived here!

    May 25, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 50 °F

This was Pope, Leo’s childhood home in South Chicago! Best wishes on his ministry… it has been so fun to see all the funny memes about finally, the Chicago Bears gonna be a good football team, cause they got some divine intervention!Read more

  • The Bean!

    May 25, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 52 °F

You cannot go to Chicago and not visit the Bean! Parking was a bit of a challenge, but thankfully Chris didn’t care about getting a ticket… either for driving poorly, or parking illegally!

  • Missing Meier!

    May 25, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 66 °F

Meier, we are excited that you are so important to the play Hadestown, but we sure miss you on a road trip… But the Lord is reminding us of you all the time!

  • The Mall of America

    May 25, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 70 °F

The boys got to run around this gargantuan mall for an hour and take it all in. Roller coasters and an aquarium add store after store after store… it is something to behold!

Chris sat down with an iced tea from Starbucks and just did some deep breathing! Ha ha!Read more

  • Remembrance

    May 25, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 68 °F

It is hard to believe that it was five years ago today that George Floyd lost his life on this corner in Minneapolis. Even while we are running around doing all our trip stuff, it is so vital to not lose sight of issues of justice. (Actually felt like quite a bit of whiplash to leave the Mall of America to come here.)

Chris was blessed to listen to the performers for a tiny bit and pause to think about how important it is to name the fact that human dignity and the image/likeness of God is to be honored - and that issues of race in America often distort this truth.

    “Lord, have mercy….”

  • SKOL!

    May 25, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

Cruising through downtown Minneapolis, we saw where the Minnesota Vikings play football, the Minnesota Twins play baseball, and the Minnesota Timberwolves are presently playing basketball still in the playoffs to try to make it to the NBA finals! Pretty fun sports town.Read more

  • Just like family!

    May 25, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 64 °F

Wow oh wow, were we treated with some amazing hospitality in their lovely house. Chris has known David and Carol Narum for 20 years (from the time we were out of church in Hillsboro, Oregon.). Not only do we have so many memories with this family, especially daughters, Ashley and Becky in youth group, Chris also got to do Ashley’s wedding five years ago.

Thanks so much, dear ones for the bratwurst and fresh strawberries and deep conversation.

The boys got to play pool and video games in the basement, just sad the time went so fast.

AND we saw some fireflies briefly! Still shocked to see fireflies…. So very cool.

  • Having a “Ball!”

    May 26, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

Kind of disappointed that we didn’t get to go in the museum, but we did get to see the largest ball of twine created by one person in the world! (there was a sign on the door that gave us a phone number to call if we wanted to go into the museum, but since it’s a holiday, we chose not to make the call.)

Ironically, this exhibit stands at the corner of Weird Alley!

Also, check out the video to see the very official guest book that we all signed .

  • Best quote of the week!

    May 26, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 64 °F

“I thought the corn palace was a restaurant!” A quote from one of the boyz (who shall remain unnamed) when we rolled up to the pride of Mitchell, SD! Every year they redo the outside murals, made of corn. This year’s theme: 2025 Wonders of the World! Something else to check out, and in the auditorium inside, the local high school just had their graduation!

This is the Midwest at its best!
