  • Finally at Wall Drug

    May 26, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

No words can really describe the Wall Drug experience… lots of shops, a moving T. Rex, we got some grub, and got a sense of what must’ve realistically been like to be in the wild West! (Ha ha JK!)

Also, Chris expressed the range of real ministry… Reading Psalm 16 in the “Travelers chapel” and making a new friend on the bench! Haha

  • Good times in the Badlands

    May 26, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 52 °F

Some people think there were also some bad times in the badlands…. We’re not sure what their true story is, because we were nowhere near a real cliff - and we’re not sure if we really got stuck there cause we’re not stuck anymore.

Truly, a stunning view, and we now realize that clay when it gets wet is sticky!

  • Speaking of Fog

    May 26, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌫 45 °F

They just started the nightly lights on Mount Rushmore last Friday, so Chris was so excited to check it out. (the boys stayed behind in the hotel.).

Initially, you could not even see the presidents faces because of the fog and clouds. But it turned out to be super peaceful and there were only two or three other people in the whole space tonight.

I really enjoyed listening to this Rich Mullins song (Here in America) as I walked up. Beautiful night in the fog and the midst!

  • Putt Putt

    May 27, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 54 °F

It all started off rather competitively, but Duncan ran away with the victory! Joey was especially crushed…(notice the sad posture, “Charlie Browning” in the background.) We won’t say whether there was money and gambling happening today…Read more

  • Crazy Horse

    May 27, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 54 °F

It’s something else to see Crazy Horse right after Mount Rushmore, such a bigger undertaking! Cool that the boys got to take rocks from the visitor’s center from here.

  • Lee Valley Memories

    May 27, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

Almost 35 years ago, Chris spent about a month at this camp in training for being on our music ministry team for a year with a group called Lutheran Youth Encounter. These beautiful hills are very special, very spiritual as those memories come back. (and you can see the Crazy Horse monument practically from Camp.)Read more

  • Fantastic Visit to Devil’s Tower

    May 27, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

For all of us, this was our first visit to Devils Tower, and all of us believe it will not be our last! Everything about our time there was fantastic! It was almost 70°, you could see the tower for miles as you approached it, mountain climbers were tiny little dots going up the side… And of course we got another great album cover picture!

There will be a separate post for the chaotic bouldering that happened ….. no ER visits necessary.

  • About 90% of the way Home!

    May 28, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

We had some rain overnight, but as we look forward to spending most of the next two days in Yellowstone, it looks like we will have a great weather… and hopefully small crowds of people.

We are about 90% of our traveled miles complete, so hard to believe!

Home to Seattle on Saturday .

  • Another Cemetery Visit

    May 28, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

We visited Duncan’s great, great grandfather’s cemetery plot outside of Dayton, Wyoming.

Here’s the info from Duncan’s mom: “That was my great grandpa, who was a cattle rancher and was run over by a train in Missoula while loading cattle. He died on the day my grandpa was born. It's a tragic story, but the resulting events led to my grandpa being adopted by his stepfather, and the family moving to Sedro-Woolley where my grandpa grew up and lived the rest of his life.”

Not even 2 miles out of our way, and also we didn’t know where he was in the cemetery, Elijah found his stone in about 72 seconds .

  • What a view!

    May 28, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 46 °F

Heading into Bighorn National Park, we quickly climbed in elevation… Ultimately we were at about 8500 feet above sea level! Much of the time, we were in fog and clouds. But when the Fog cleared, it was an excellent view. And of course, the boys had to go across the road to collect some rocks.Read more

  • Snow Ball Fight!

    May 28, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 46 °F

It is the month of June this weekend and we found snow for the first time on our trip. Chris is wondering if he was the biggest loser when I was all said any d done in the snowball fight.

  • Shell Falls

    May 28, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

Although this area is officially closed off, we parked and walked in to see the the raging waterfall… the steep and narrow cliffs meet for a beautiful canyon.

  • Bear Time

    May 28, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

How do you know that there’s a bear spotted in Yellowstone Park? When there’s a crowd of people and the big telescopic cameras come out, join them, and find the bears. We saw two big grizzlies and that seem like too smaller… Amazing and intense at a distance. One of the park Rangers kept running back-and-forth and screaming for people to stay at their cars…. Great first hour in the Park.Read more
