  • Highlights/Night Lights on a Day 12

    May 5, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 55 °F

New Mexico day was spectacular… Here are some highlights: listening to Beatles, Roswell, alien Museum, and our hike to the volcanoes/ice caves. (video attached says more.)

Sleeping at a truckstop in West Texas, we were awoken by crazy loud thunder (big rain drops) and super bright lightning right above us! Love this weather.Read more

  • Day 13 starts and we’re weary…

    May 6, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

Let us tell you friends, the American southwest has some big fat states! Yesterday we drove 618 miles (our second longest drive day so far… The first longest was from Wilsonville, Oregon to Richmond, California with some side stops)

We’re hitting the road in search of a Waffle House right before Dallas!

We don’t look tired do we?

  • Sweet relief with some BBQ

    May 6, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌩️ 73 °F

Yes, for sure we had two Poboy sandwiches, Joey got the shrimp and I got the brisket… baked beans with brisket, mashed potatoes, and dirty rice. And I’m drinking some obligatory sweet tea. (With bread pudding to go). We still gotta get through a couple hours of this severe thunderstorm, but now we are refilled to make it.Read more

  • Safe and sound in Baton Rouge

    May 6, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌩️ 75 °F

So grateful to be in the eye of the only major storm in all of the US! Truly, we followed it all the way across the state of Texas and deep into Louisiana. We were safe, but there were some crazy moments and a close calls, but all is well. (my dear wife, Lisa was questioning our wisdom… And the overall wisdom of our gender.)Read more

  • Crossed the Mississippi… in the south!

    May 7, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 70 °F

Still lots of drama around the weather here in Louisiana, and some accidents kept us from going in to see the Capital building… We had to ship to a different swamp tour, but excited to eat some beignets in New Orleans. (BTW… Joey almost left me to join the bowling tour!)Read more

  • NOLA is nice

    May 7, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌩️ 68 °F

A quick trip in for a walk and beignet! It’s been pretty fun even though we’re walking in the rain… Walked down Bourbon Street, heard live music, dropped in some art galleries (because that’s what Duncan said to do), hit up Jackson Square and saw the cathedral from a distance. (Mass is presently going on!)Read more

  • The ONLY Swamp we found…

    May 7, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 70 °F

Well, we had two swamp tours canceled because of the weather… And we drove to find Alligator Alley, just to be turned away at the door before closing time because it takes too long to walk down to the critters…(I guess?). It was a disappointment, but at least we found this swamp sign in New Orleans! (and we went to our first Buc-ee’s!)Read more

  • Soggy as we left New Orleans

    May 7, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 81 °F

We got pretty wet walking to our car in New Orleans… Can’t imagine how gorgeous it is on a sunny day! Had a bunch of random things happen on our drive… But we’re getting there!

  • Highlights of Day 14 in the South

    May 7, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

Chris often says the following: “ be flexible, be happy, be flexible…”. Joey says we’re still working on the second one but doing the first and third great! Not much of today didn’t go as planned, but we stayed safe enjoyed each other‘s company and has some awesome experiences.

Joey’s top three: walking around New Orleans, our first visit to Buc-ee’s, and listening to the Beatles “Revolver” album.

Chris’ list of best? Joey keeping a good attitude through it all (especially with the three failed attempts to do a swamp tour of any kind!). Getting a taste of New Orleans and seeing more armadillos than Joey (tho’ they were mostly squished on the roadside!)

We started in Louisiana, went into Mississippi, then Alabama, then the Florida panhandle, back to Alabama, and are sleeping in Georgia! Five states in a day is a lot!

    Thanks for the prayers, everyone!

  • Georgia on my Mind

    May 8, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 61 °F

The sun has finally come out! We had a bit of a rough night, sleeping in the hot and muggy weather, but we are ready for a great day! (there’s a variety of shots in and around Atlanta as well.). We also had our obligatory grits from Waffle House, now have done at once so we don’t need to do again!Read more

  • Coke IS the real thing!

    May 8, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 70 °F

Neither Joey or Chris are big soda, drinkers, but it was something else to check out the history and the experiential nature of the World of Coca-Cola. We were surrounded by throngs of kids on field trips, so that was entertaining too! Chris still knows all the words to the 70s song “ I’d like to teach the world to sing…”Read more
