  • ABCDEFG….

    May 9, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 77 °F

Joey and Chris have frequently passed the time on the road by playing the alphabet game. After 25 games, it’s almost even… Chris leads by one! Joey loves the name of this store, cuz it has the last three letters of the alphabet! (and Chris was today years old when he learned this sentence from Joey: “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog….” The shortest sentence with all of the letters in the alphabet!Read more

  • Reunion time with Noelle and Rev Rowe

    May 9, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

It is amazing to think that Noelle has been in our lives for 15 years! (like Drew, part of the stellar youth group in Longview)… and we have known her husband Rev almost a decade.

Thanks for showing us a good time, eating fancy at a Thai place, and bragging on Cary, NC and one of the best parks in the country.

Loved hanging out with you and talking Beatles, as well as catching up.

  • Our magical mystery tour…

    May 9, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 72 °F

This is Joey‘s reflections – it was an interesting album. I would say the best so far. It had some of my favorite songs and some of my least favorite songs of The Beatles. My top three were hello goodbye in third, Penny Lane in second, and fool on the hill in first.

This isChris‘s reflections – interesting is one way to talk about it! I’m finding I’m not much a fan of psychedelia… But there are some amazing songs on this album. The best song is by far Penny Lane, followed by full on the hill, And Strawberry Fields forever.

It was so fun to talk Beatles with the Rev and Noelle Rowe tonight, they might be even bigger fans than we are!

  • OK, finally a real snafu!

    May 9, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 61 °F

First of all, we are safe and sound on the East Coast! Beyond that, today marked some milestones:
    - We have driven over 5000 miles so far on our trip
    - we were blessed by both a gorgeous sunset and a very bright, almost full moon
    - We saw fireflies driving through Virginia tonight
    - We had our first real fight today over a Beatles song called “Your Mother Should Know”
    - We (OK Chris) dropped his water bottle with all his collectible state stickers down an 8 foot storm drain in the hotel parking lot
    - and… We left a couple bags back in South Carolina! (Lisa shared a common sentiment…. Surprised something like this hasn’t happened earlier.)

But in the immortal words of Paul McCartney, “We can work it out!”

  • On to Segment 3!

    May 10, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

The girls have landed in Virginia Beach after a redeye flight! They are a little sleepy, but they’re taking naps and we’re getting ready to enjoy Virginia Beach. Here are reflections from segment two.

  • Heading to the beach!

    May 10, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 66 °F

The Lyons family has arrived and we are eating lunch so we have energy for our day! Going on a boat tour to see dolphins and our hotel is right on the beach, so I’m looking forward to getting sandy!!! (and Nikki Joey and Chris went for a walk and we found out that Joey owns everything in Norfolk!)Read more

  • Ocean breeze dinner

    May 10, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 66 °F

What a lovely night to have the ocean breeze blow in on us as we enjoyed a delightful Mexican meal. Joey and Tressa experimented with a crazy dish. (that included octopus, as well as about three other types of meat! Grandpa Paul would’ve loved it!) We are especially grateful for some dear friends at home who gifted us so we could go out and celebrate as a family! We are feeling the love!Read more

  • Almost renewed our vows…

    May 11, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 73 °F

So sweet to worship with Richard and Bridget Kidd this morning. Richard gave the sermon at our wedding 25 years ago (and we teased about renewing our vows today!). He was the pastor of Lisa ‘s singles group in Virginia Beach. Nice to get family updates and enjoy some conversation. Lisa was a labor support person when they gave birth to their daughter Rachel.Read more
