  • Graduation day!

    May 3, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

Chris remembers vividly when Nikki said she didn’t want to go to a Christian college since she was a pastor‘s kid and needed a bit of a break from the church thing. But the sense of community and family at Concordia has been amazing for Nicky and we thank God for CUI!

Now she’s done with her bachelors degree and will head back to Seattle to start her masters and teaching at SPU.

Could not be more proud of you, Nikki!

Lots to catch up on with Nikki ‘s graduation,… We’ll get that posted soon

  • Joshua Tree was….

    May 3, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 75 °F

Definitely a good time to go and look at the beauty of the desert. But I was surprised to find out that U2 actually took the picture for the Joshua tree album in Death Valley! Still, as a kid who grew up in Utah, I am amazed that the desert holds a special kind of beauty. (and we accomplished what the sign asked us to do… Not die!)Read more

  • Beatle album number 3!

    May 3, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

On our long drive into Arizona we listened to A Hard Days Night. This is the album where we believe the beatles found their sound. It is the best beatles album so far by a mile. We agree that the best song is the namesake of the album, but almost all of them are good. Excited for Beatles for Sale!Read more

  • Commencing day 11

    May 4, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 72 °F

Fresh grapefruit and a beautiful visit with the Ashbrook‘s… Chris got to visit with Tom for a couple hours and share some prayer and reflect on the new book that Tom is working on about brother Boniface, a monk at the Holy Trinity Abbey in Huntsville Utah, who is Toms spiritual Director for about 20 years. Grateful for the hospitality!Read more

  • Beatles For Sale

    May 4, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 61 °F

It was cool to do some research about the Beatles fourth album… one historian points out their sense of fatigue from constant tour and the pressure of Beatlemania in 1964. Most of their songs are sad, love songs and covers of other people‘s work. Good stuff, but not their best. Both Joey’s and Chris agree on the favorite song - Eight Days a Week (by a mile it’s the best.)Read more

  • Jim Gray’s Petrified Wood Company

    May 4, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 59 °F

Joey was in heaven! It was incredible to see the amount of petrified wood and fossils and gems and other goodies at the store… he landed some good stuff for his collection and hopes to come back again sometime. Sadly, the petrified forest national Park was closed by the time we got here, but I think we saw enough petrified wood to survive.Read more

  • Highlights from the Desert Day!

    May 4, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 45 °F

Here are Joey’s highlights from our day in the desert - number 3 would be the red rocks in Sedona. Number 2 would be the Impact crater museum. Number 1 would be the petrified wood company. Overall, lots of driving with quite a few cool stops to see in the desert.

Chris just wants to point out that Joey is definitely a rock hound, and I know he loves the Pacific Northwest more than words can say, but maybe there’s a little bit of a desert soul in him as well.

Chris’s highlights are as follows: Number 3 had to do with Joey driving several hours for us, and the conversation we had during that time. Number 2 was the overall expanse of the desert and seeing sheets of rainfall across a wide valley, being surprised we never had to drive through it… Blossoming cacti was impressive as well. Number 1 for me was that my day was book ended by spending time with two of my most dear friends, the ones who know me best and still love me!

Thank you, Jesus for an awesome day and for a very safe travel! (And we’ve included some random shots of our travel day today.)

    May 5, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 37 °F

Thank you, Tim and Heidi Norton for your hospitality in gallup. Appreciate the late night chat Tim, excited to see our kids continue to grow and thrive… Parenting is easy, right? (it was almost freezing this morning, so different than 94° in Arizona two days ago.)Read more

  • Help is on the way!

    May 5, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌩️ 73 °F

Help! What a great group of songs… Here’s Joey‘s top three: I’ve just seen a face, tickets to ride, Help!

I am so tired of my son copying me, because I totally agree about Help being number one, ticket to ride number two and I’ve just seen a face being number three on the album.

Both of us also agree that yesterday is a top five song of all time, but wasn’t really a Beatles song… As much as a Paul McCartney solo song…

  • Happy Cinco de Mayo!

    May 5, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

You gotta have Mexican food when you’re in New Mexico, but we were a little bit silly when we realized we forgot it was Cinco de Mayo until after we left. Good enchiladas at this place that of course had an alien painted on its window.Read more

  • Stormy weather!

    May 5, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 57 °F

We drove through some of the worst rain I’ve ever driven through, but God was good and we stayed safe… We’re presently parked at a gas station in the gas pump area undercover, because they’re expecting a midnight hailstorm. Love this adventure! (and welcome to Texas, I guess…)Read more
