There is a restaurant right after security that I said I wanted you to try when we walked by upon arrival a few days ago. Alas, it’s been boarded up (rehab? Replacement?).

Next restaurant in the direction of our gate was a Lebanese restaurant, Anita’s Kitchen. Pretty much standard Eastern Mediterranean foods or riffs thereof.

Had the falafel entree and lamb gyro wrap. Good food.Meer informatie

DTW has a program with Detroit Institute of Arts that puts “high quality reproductions “ of its collections in public spaces.
Several interesting samples near Anita’s and our gate.

The Therapy Dogs is an interesting program.

A handful of people from the TYE were on board the same flight. Several others passed by while we were waiting.Meer informatie

About 80 passengers- almost every passenger has their own row, no searching for bin space. Very lucky for us because we were so in the groove yesterday that we forgot about checking in till we were on our way back to the hotel. I was wondering how we scored A58 & A59 spots 4 hours after check in opened.Meer informatie

Better view of islands in the Lake - on flight in they were just pinpricks of light in the water.

And what is with that pointy piece of land - looks too regular to be natural!

Reiziger Disregard my thumb - it was a bit tricky getting a good angle, and at 400mph (ish), there isn’t a lot of opportunity for a do-over 🤪

We had a very interesting min-vacation with minimal unexpected hiccups:
- Both flights between BWI and DTW were on time or early. No issues with security screening or anything at the airports, in contrast to the “world is falling” news about the impact of the government furlough. TSA had adequate manning and no one seemed unduly stressed.😇
- Car rental was uneventful from airport shuttle to actual driving. Thank you HertzGold program 🙂
- Spent more time at the Henry Ford museum than estimated- it was larger and more varied than we imagined. There’s still large swaths of the museum we didn’t see. Plus we didn’t know about the evening Halloween festivities, which might require a redo in 2026 or 2027
- Both hotels were comfortable stays
- The artist visit was really interesting and we met some cool people and listened to some good music.
- Food was good all weekend. Detroit pizza - ‘nuff saidMeer informatie
