"1677?" Noticing the number on the side of the farmhouse we were spending the night in.
"Is that the street number or when the house was built?"
"No, that's when the extensions were built" was the reply.
Turns out we were staying in a farmhouse (Greenbank Farm) that was over 500 years old - pretty wonky inside.
It's still a working farm - Zac played with the Kelpies and a little terrier called Bertie.

This walk to Patterdale was another rewarding walk. There's a reason they call this place the lakes district... there's lakes everywhere amongst all these valleys.

Although Sal & I have both managed to twist ankles, we should have enough tape and painkillers to get through... after strapping Brendan and Lachlan's knees, that is.
