Update on my lost baggage (unicycle)

I phoned the Airline while on the bus to my accommodation and the normal tracking could not locate my baggage. The person on the phone said he would need to escalate the matter (search).

or

Walking to Pak ‘n Save supermarket
3km (50mins walk)
Got lost, took a wrong turn while chatting to someone one the phone.
Saw this car number plate, that looked like a message to me.
First good luck of the journey, the bus I booked to Bluff accommodation from Invercargill Airport, can pick me up from the supermarket.
So I don’t need to walk back to the Airport with my groceries to catch the bus.Read more

Walking to Invercargill to buy groceries (food). I haven’t eaten breakfast.
Location of baggage with unicycle is still unknown as advised by Airline.
Just filled in a detailed baggage missing claim form online…tiring exercise.
Booked a bus to my accommodation in Bluff. Luckily the accommodation is payment by donation or volunteer work, because I might be there for a while.
Feeling a bit disheartened but got to keep moving forward (without unicycle at this point in time)Read more

Got to Gate with 11 minutes to spare.
Big relief!! I can’t believe I actually made it in time. Actually I had heaps of time.

6.30pm (Flight departure time 8.15pm)
Disassembly of unicycle for check-in.
I need a cardboard bike box!
None to be found to buy at the airport!
I actually made a box at home to fit the unicycle and last night, at 1am, I drove to a spot near the airport and hid it in the bushes. When I returned today to retrieve it, via taxi detour, it was gone.
Check-in staff told me latest check-in time is 7pm.
At 7.10, I got back to check-in counter (one counter left still open for Air NZ) with 1 baggage to check-in.
I presented for check-in a big bundle of half wrapped unicycle parts and the bits from bags lossly encased with two McDonald’s cardboard case boxes and straps.
Check-in staff weighed it - 30.4kg.
Size 900mm x 900mm x 280mm. Overweight and oversized and holes big enough for stuff to fall out.
Miracle! They accepted it with no extra charge!! Got my boarding passes.
Took the mess of baggage to plastic wrapper! All good - took to oversized counter to check-in. Time 7.45pm.

7.45pm!! (flight departs at 8.15)
Boarding time must be now!!
Went thru departures, X-ray, customs, jogged to Gate 55 (fartherest gate)Read more

6pm arrival at airport by taxi from Dulwich Hill with Noriaki (taking the Photo).
I had 15 mins until 6.15pm check-in time for 8.15pm departure. I still needed to disassemble unicycle and pack everything in one box.

Couldn’t get the direct train from Dulwich Hill due to construction closures.
Taxi option took much time.Read more

Michelle and Noriaki graciously rode with me from Sydney Opera House toward Sydney Airport. It was so nice, thank you!
With time running out to get to the airport, we got tram from Leichhardt North to Dulwich Hill.
I got a text that my flight is delayed 1 hour to 8.15pm departure time. So I had a bit more time to ride 5.6km and needed to check-in at 6.15pm (in 1 hour 42min time)Read more

4.08pm, after 6km riding (25km to airport).
Time was running out to get to the airport to check-in at 5.30 for 7.30 flight.
Had to get tram at Leichhardt North station.
This was the first time I have ridden the unicycle since Dec 18 (26 days ago), and the heaviest load (40kg) I have ever ridden with.
26kg loaded unicycle plus 14kg wearing & in backpack)
My average speed was around 10kph with many stops and a few “unplanned dismounts” UPDs.Read more
