I've never been to Europe, and it doesn't quite feel real. I'm excited but anxious. I feel like nothing is planned and we don't have reservations for anything but the car and hotels. We have checked a bag with Alaska and have our carry-on bags. So far, so good. Now we wait to catch the plane to Sea-Tac departing at 1330. We will be leaving for Frankfurt at 1655 with Condor and arrive before 1200 (I'm practicing using 24-hour time format, as the Germans do cuz in so cool.)Read more

Discovered the most yucky cocktail evee!

Old Town Frankfurt

We went to the old town center to see the Römer (city hall), the Cathedral, the River, and had a nice brunch before going to Aldi, the local grocery store that has opened some locations in the USA. Finally, found a few protein shakes!! Yay!Read more

The Pagan Wall and Bacharach

On our drive from Frankfurt to Koblenz we drove to an ancient Roman wall that is still standing but had been repaired a few times over the centuries. Amazing!

Then we followed The Rhine through many lovely little towns. We stopped in Bacharach to look around, eat, and rest. Had wonderful food!!! My phone died so more photos on Stacy's phone that I'll add later.Read more

We drove north and stopped at several plaves along the way. One was The Peace Museum Bridge at Remagen
Friedensmuseum Brücke von Remagen, a historically significant place and event from both WWs.

From the official website:

"The railway bridge in Remagen was planned in 1912 and built from 1916 - 1918 during the First World War to bring troops to the Western Front. ‘Kaiser Wilhelm II’ named it "Ludendorff Bridge" in honour of the General Quartermaster of the Army, Erich Ludendorff.

"During the Second World War, it achieved the fame it still enjoys today when, on 7 March 1945, soldiers of the 9th ‘US Panzer Division’ were able to capture the Ludendorff Bridge completely unexpectedly and undestroyed. On the German side, the prepared demolition had failed. General Eisenhower is said to have commented on this "Miracle of Remagen" with the exclamation "The bridge is worth its weight in gold"."Read more

I was really looking forward to this place but I had no idea how much Stacy would LOVE it! He grew up around lots of German farmers so seeing how these farms and farm houses looked and worked was very exciting to him! Mr, too!!

Schwarzwälder Freilichtmuseum Vogtsbauernhof.

Culture and history come to life in the Black Forest Open Air Museum Vogtsbauernhof in Gutach. Discover how people lived and worked on Black Forest farms over the last 600 years. Visit six fully furnished single-roof farms and a day laborer's house. With the "Schlössle von Effringen" (1407) from Wildberg, Calw district, the Northern Black Forest arrived in Gutach in 2018. There are also mills, saws, farm gardens, an herb garden and numerous animals of old breeds. An extensive event program with daily activities for the whole family ensures an eventful museum visit throughout the season."Read more
