  • Newman

    4 September 2023, Australia

Long haul today, 712k. Drove through Meekatharra where I was christened years ago.
I think it was in the church in the photo. The hose was where my godmother Aunty Edith and Uncle Bill lived for many years. I missed the opportunity to catch up with my cousin so we kept going and made it to Newman for the night. Only 2 hours to Karijini tomorrowBaca selengkapnya

  • Karijini Dales Campground

    5 September 2023, Australia

A dingo was out reception committee as we pulled into Dales Campground. The site is very spacious with a decent distance between campers. Quick look at Dales Gorge in the afternoon.

  • Hamersley Gorge and Tom Price

    6 September 2023, Australia

Was welcomed this morning by a dingo wandering past our site looking for food I guess. Took a drive west to Hamersly Gorge about 100k from our campsite then back via Tom Price for fuel. The pools at the bottom of the Gorge looked awesome for swimming but seemed too cold for me, maybe we will swim at some of the others tomorrow.. There is no telstra reception at our campsite, only Optus, so we grabbed an Optus data sim at Tom Price. On the drive back to Dales, we stopped at Mt Bruce overlooking Marandoo mine which was carved off from the notional park in 1994. There was an ore train waiting at the mine, I forgot how long they are. I use a head lamp when moving around outside the van at night or going to the loo, I noticed little pinprick glittering like a tiny diamond. There was 5 or 6 of these around a 10m area. On closer inspection they were spiders about the size of a 20 cent piece. You could not get the glitter with a normal torch, just from the head lamp. Amazing how many of them are hanging around at night getting a feed.
The stars and the Milky Way are amazing out here. I tried to take some photos but they won’t do it justice

  • Karijini Weano Gorge and Knox Gorge

    7 September 2023, Australia

Took a trip to Weano and Knox Gorges today. 40+ k of corrugated red dust track. Weano Gorge is a rating 4 walk. I expected it to be harder than it was. We have been ignoring the rating 5 walks as it states you need good fitness and be an experienced hiker, neither of which fits us, the walk was great. As soon as we got down in the gorge out of the breeze it got very warm. Probably an hour to complete the walk and some steep climbing at the end. Hopefully will do some swimming tomorrow. Soo many dingoes around and they have no fear of humansBaca selengkapnya

  • Dales Gorge, Fortescue Falls and Fern Pool

    8 September 2023, Australia

Arose to a fairly strong wind and it was fairly cool. An airlock has developed in our water tanks blocking any water. We decided as it was cool and we had no water to cut Karijini short and head to Tom Price. We decided to do the Dales Gorge walk to Fortescue Falls and Fern Pool. It was a good walk through the bottom of the gorge. Supposed to be a rating 4 walk but we found it was ok. The views and the countryside is fantastic, especially Fortescue Falls and Fern Pool. Decided not to go swimming is it was quite cool. The climb out from the gorge was a steel boardwalk with 250 steps up and up and up. Buggered by the time we got to the top. Packed up and heading to the Tom Price Caravan park. We booked and ensuite site and had our first decent shower in 4 days. Washed a lot of red dust off. It is everywhere. The bank of the Ranger is not red dust proof. Will spend a day here tomorrow and off to Coral Bay SundayBaca selengkapnya

  • Coral Bay

    10 September 2023, Australia

Coral Bay, what an amazing place. Did the buggy tour this time, wanted to do it last time but it was cancelled. Will post a video of it later. It was lots of fun. The snorkelling just next to shore was really good last time but a bit cloudy and less fish this time. Still fair sized fish swimming around your legs in a foot of water next to shore. Wasn’t so crazy crowded this time. We will be back

  • Exmouth

    13 September 2023, Australia

Took a day trip up to Exmouth. We went out to SS Mildura wreck site just out of town. We spent about 10 or 15 minutes at the wreck lookout and reckon we witnessed at least 100 whale breaches during that period. They were very active. Some as close as 1k from shore. Definitely a whale super HighwayBaca selengkapnya
