On the boat swimming, drinking Prosecco, eating nibbly’s and then fresh seafood dinner. It felt like we were back traveling again, except we didn’t catch our own dinner 😂🌴😊

So good she said we should do this for both our birthdays from now on indefinitely…..

  • Dunbogan Camping Weekend

    March 1, 2025 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 27 °C

Tinny, Tent and a little bit of Time
It was beautiful weather to spend the weekend exploring Dunbogan and its surrounds.
As typical weekend warriors we made the most of our time ticking off all of the following:
    Explored in the tinny
    Had a wild oyster entree
Caught flatties and cooked them for dinner
Checked out all the cool national park camps
Surfed good waves at Crowdy Head
Watched dolphins playing in the surf
Ate fresh local oysters, bugs and prawns at the epic north brother lookout
Let the kids, and Lauren drive on the beach
Tried to catch beach worms…… but failed 😂
We didn’t stop but it was very enjoyable and the dog had a ball.

  • Lachlan’s Zone Swimming Day

    March 7, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

What a great achievement for Lachlan who has never had a swimming lesson to make it to zone representing his school against the best swimmers in the region. He also managed another day off school participating in sport over school work 😂
Lachlan didn’t have the best of luck with his goggles coming off in the free style and him carrying them in one hand for the entire race and then deciding not to wear them in the breastroke to avoid the same fate however it also made things very difficult. But he never gave up, giving it his best shot with what he was dealt and making us proud, many other kids would have given up.
Geeze he is looking fit, all the riding and playing sports is really starting to show.

  • Happy 12, Lachie.

    March 16, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

A house full of teenagers and a very, very late night is how we celebrated Lachie turning 12.

They rode, skated, swam and stayed up very very late!

The boys were designated to the man cave, at midnight I had to tell them to put the drill away and then at 2.30 in the morning in I had to tell them to quieten down. They finally crashed out, but it was too hot in the shed, so I woke up to all of the mattresses having been pulled out of the shed onto the back concrete and 4 sleeping boys.Read more

  • Lake St Claire

    March 21, 2025 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 22 °C

We had 4 seasons in one day, calm sunshine in the morning, howling wind and rain at lunchtime and then the most beautiful sunny afternoon with the lake turning to glass and the green mountains making the perfect backdrop. It was a very surreal day and the boys made the most of every minute driving the boat, skiing, knee boarding, wake boarding, tubing, playing on the kayaks and paddle boards or just kicking the footy at the playground. The boat didn’t skip a beat and the we had light winds for the remainder of the weekend, cooking rotisseries and sitting by the fire, it was great!
    Very Enjoyable 😊

  • Beach Starting Braxy 👊

    March 22, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

I prompted Brax to try a beach start. After heaps of attempts he was shivering and cold but that didn’t stop him, he was looking better and better but just having a little trouble keeping balance on the small ski. With a quick equipment change to a larger ski (thanks to dad’s great idea) he nailed it.
Go Brax! So proud of you for not giving up, I knew you could do it but more importantly you believed you could do it, and bam! YOU DID IT!

  • Chess Club

    March 26, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Lachie has been right into the extra curricular activities this year (it has nothing to do with getting out of school work 🤫😉).

This term, he made it onto the chess team, during the week they went and competed at Wyong Christian School against all other schools on the Central Coast.

All the kids played 7 games each, Lachie won 3, drew 2 and lost 2. A great outcome.

    The whole team placed 3rd.

  • Snap! There goes the knee

    March 27, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

I severely bucked my knee at soccer, then 8 weeks later I was back surfing and my knee let go again with a very loud cracking sound 😳
I got the scans and it’s not the news I was hoping for. The list of damage is long and the doctor was very surprised I managed to hobble in without crutches. Snapped ACL completely, complex tears of the MCL, damaged almost every other ligament and meniscus and have fractured my Tibia.
Booked in to see the surgeon in May which seems like an eternity away. I’m disappointed about not being able to surf, ski, or motorbike ride for ages with the wait for the specialist and the lengthy recovery, but I’m just concentrating on what I can do which isn’t very exciting but it’s better than being completely laid up.

Rainy days are perfect to go the extra bit on the cooking. Friday night I did flathead poke bowls with salad, lime chilli rice and balsamic beetroot chutney. Then Saturday we had WA lobster entree, prawn cocktails which the kids made, I cooked the scotch fillet and Lauren did a very delicious potato bake. Followed this up with the new Predator movie and some caramel Cadbury chocolate for desert.
Was nice to hang out as a family

While having breakfast this morning Lauren started laughing at something outside, Jett was sitting up at the outside table like a big boy 😂

  • Harts Beauty

    April 8, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

One of the most special and precious items I own.

On our trip around Australia Lachie wanted to find a gem. So I researched, Brett drove, we all dug, got sweaty, found many different stones, some good, some bad, we sorted, we washed we got addicted ( well I did) and we found a gem. We found lots of gems 💎 and I have the most beautiful ring 😍.

A ring of zircons collected from Mud Tank, Harts Range in the Northern Territory.

  • Brax and Brett’s Fishing Adventures

    April 11, 2025, Tasman Sea ⋅ 🌙 23 °C

The weather looked great and Brax finished his assignments which meant he could have the last day of school off.
Sooo….. What better way to spend it then heading out in the big boat for a fish.
The ocean was so calm and the sun was hot which made it very enjoyable. We had a slow start but things heated up when I hooked something enormous. I managed to lift it slightly off the bottom but It was like it was stuck. I was exhausted, so Brax helped me lift my rod and inch by inch bring it to the surface. It was a huge grey nurse shark and by far the biggest shark I have ever caught. We estimate it at 6-7 foot and it would have definitely weighed as much as me.
We lost a couple of baits and on one of the last drops I hooked a good Kingfish…….
I was stoked, I’ve been craving king fish cerviche.
After we got home and washed the boat I remembered I forgot to empty the live bait tank and there was one fish still in there. I threw it on the grass and it kept Jett occupied for ages before he finally ate it in the late afternoon.
Brax and I were starving after washing the boat so we decided to grab a kabab and eat it down the beach, it was a great way to end a great day! 😎

  • Easter Holiday Road Trip Inland!

    April 18, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

This holidays we decided to head inland, we have all missed sunsets, fires and just the freedom of free camping.

Day 1 was a big one, an early start 4 am.

First stop Burning Mountain for breakfast and a hike. Brett has been wanting to check this place out for a while, but he didn’t realise was it was a 5km return walk from the car park with 300 steps each way! But he was determined to see the burning mountain, broken leg or not, he was going and he made it!

Lachie wasn’t keen on the walk ( as usual) but was glad he went. Brax commented how cool it was when we made it to the end to see the steam coming up from under the ground, all the boys jumped the fence to feel the heat rising up through the rocks and get a closer look at the steam pockets.

Kat, Shaun and the kids meet us here and we started our adventure.

    Lunch stop!

Finally got a picture at the Merriwa silos! After, driving past the silo on many of occasions, usually very early mornings on motorbike riding trips, Brett pulled up and positioned the car and van nicely for a photo.

And another nice painting that was in the park.

  • Gilgandra

    April 18, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Shaun’s friend owns property at Gilgandra, so we pulled in for a night or two.

We had a lovely shady spot on a creek, which Jett loved 🥰.

After we lit a fire, we noticed a very large fire up near the main house, we got a bit worried and went for a drive. When we to got the house we discovered they were doing a massive back burn, it was awesome to watch.

And the main reason the boys wanted to stop here! So they could go for a hunt! So they did…

I on the other hand chose to stay and take some starry night shots.

  • River front camping - Gilgandra

    April 19, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

A lazy morning sitting by the fire, and sleeping in.

After lazing around, we ventured out for a walk up the river, Byron and Jett were in there element, running, splashing and squealing.

Brax and Lachie had fun finding exploding reeds. At first when we saw the white fluff all
over the ground we thought an animal had been killed, but the kids quickly worked out what it was.

  • Firework Surprise

    April 19, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

I surprised the kids with some fireworks.

They were so excited, they wanted to know how I got them.

After some playing around it was time for them to go hunting again. The boys have been really enjoying chasing pigs, last night they meet up with some of Shaun’s mates and got to see a hunting dog in action.

Sneaky Jett, has been getting onto the bottom bunch to snuggle up and sleep with Brax.
