    Winter is coming.

    We woke to the first snow of the winter. Fortunately our little shepherd's cottage was toasty warm. Spent the morning in Parthenay (about 20 minutes away). Great research for medieval windows! On the route back discovered brocante gold in an old chicken barn - patrons are in their 80's and clearly have a hoarding problem! Purchased a couple of pieces for Airvault.Les mer

    The Hunt.

    La France rurale adore la chasse.
    Hunting is massive in France. Rural roads are peppered with signs announcing 'Chasse en cours'. Boar, Deer, Rabbits, Pheasant,... Today our route took us through the middle of several hunts slightly disconcerting when you come around the corner to a line of Hunters in high viz with their shotguns shooting across the road!

    Saumur, Loire Valley

    Today we visted the 'Caves à vin du vignoble Ackerman'. Awesome network of caves that house the wine, and now, modern art installations.
    The house of Ackerman specializes in sparkling wine. Very affordable ( €7), for delicious Bubbles.
    City of Saumur is beautiful, buildings all constructed from limestone blocks from the wine caves so very elegant facades.
    A couple of cases of wine may have made it home with us!    Les mer

    Faux pais à l'heure du déjeuner

    Rural pubs and Inns have 'plat de jour'. This we know, but a buffet set out with salad and desserts, we did not!
    French dinining can be very prescribed - you have the salad course, then you pause, then you have your main, you pause, a cheese course, dessert, and then café. Mess with that order and Madame Propriétés Les Belles Caves and the rest of the dining room guests are very confused!! They thought we were rude Parisians!
    Best meal in France with lots of laughs.
    Another fabulous Châteaux visit 30 minutes down the road from Airvault, Château de Brézé, built in 11th century with great network of caves and fortified village within the walls of the dry moat.    Les mer

    Galleria Borghese

    Spent the day surrounded by beautiful art. The park surrounding Villa Borghese is filled with other 'lesser known' museums,.. equally fabulous!
    Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces, including works by Bernini, Raphael, and Caravaggio. Especially loved the Pietro Canonica (1869-1959) Museum and his equestrian sculptures.Les mer

    Pope's sure know how to bling out a church. Visited Saint Maria Maggorie (one of the four Papal Basilicas in Rome) . It's magnificent, but so OTT! Also visited Michelangelo's statute of Moses - now that's a statute! Continued our search for the best pasta and Gelato.Les mer

    Spent the last couple of days taking in the sights of London. Being hosted in Virginia Waters by our lovely family friend Frankie.
    Unfortunately I've now succumbed to a winter lurgy, so the last 24hrs tucked up into bed.
    Feeling very Christmasy down Portobello Rd, then took in the fabulous National Portrait Gallery with my new friend Sherlock Holmes.    Les mer
