    April 21, 2012 in India

My first trip to Pondicherry. I had gone with friends. We booked a taxi from Chennai to Pondicherry and started early in the morning. It was a 3 hour drive and we stopped at some places to have breakfast and take pictures at time. On the way apart from the scenic view of sea from the road along the coastline, we came across salt plants where huge heaps of salt were left for drying. It was the first time I saw that. We bought the local fruit called Nung from a street vendor and had. That was another first for me as I had no idea such a fruit exists in my country before that. In Pondicherry, we visited Aurobindo Ashram, Ganesh temple (looookng waiting time in queue) which has the famous elephant Lakshmi. We then went for lunch at a place called La Terrasse. After lunch, we reached the Paradise beach after a short boat ride, spent the whole day there and then took the last ferry back to mainland in evening. We just had enough time left to go see the Rocky beach while the sunlight is still there. We purchased some liquor from a shop called Wine Top Knotch nearby, of course, as Pondicherry being a Union Territory doesn't have as much duty on alcohol so it's little cheaper over there than the rest of India 😉. We headed back to Chennai in late evening, needless to mention, completely sloshed.Read more
