Sadly no carrots on Nanjing E

    23 de fevereiro de 2019, China ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

Searching for a shop to pickup some groceries around People's Square Station led us back to Nanjing E Rd, where the supposed “supermarket” marked on Google Maps was actually some kind of enlarged corner store that sold a lot of beer, relatively speaking. Nothing remotely resembling a carrot in sight. Nor breakfast cereal (which is not at all popular in Asia apparently).

We did however find a cool Lego exhibit of giant Lego dudes built out of standard Lego pieces. In one of the tourist markets, we also saw an automated grinder producing black sesame butter (there was a peanut butter one beside it, but it didn't seem to be working that day) and of course what Chinese market experience would be complete without the flattened ribbon-tied pig head, ostensibly for CNY?!

For another day, we noted a really really really queued up sweet shop (think it was Shen Da Cheng near Fujian Middle Rd) featuring these green-coloured goodies (qingtuan most likely) that we shall have to try next time we are in the area! There was just no way the kids would have stood a good half hour in line for some random Chinese sweets, as it was already past their bedtime!

On the way home we saw one more cool picture-worthy machine, which was captured in action at a Japanese eyewear shop called JINS. All bets are off as to what it actually does, but it sure did look flashy and differentiating in the front window.
