  • Meeting the Luxembourg Prime minister

    July 25, 2024 in Luxembourg ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

It’s not every country that has you bump into the former prime minister walking around the streets of a country ( with two bodyguards). We asked him for a photo and he very politely agreed. Xavier Bettel was the Luxembourgish prime minister between 2013 and 2023 and is now the minister of foreign affairs. He is the first openly gay prime minister in the world to serve a second term.Read more

  • London

    July 26, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

From Luxembourg to London. We arrived late at night in Stansted and stayed at the airport Novotel on membership rewards. We had a buffet breakfast and leisurely morning before heading into the city.

We have 3 nights at the royal national hotel in Bloomsbury, just around the corner from quick selfie spot at the black books shop front.

We met up with my colleague Georgia who has taken a gap year from transport to work in the Royal Parks in London. We went to a fun bar named Mr Foggs tavern. I showed my London knowledge by taking her to the street that Diagon alley was based on. Georgia took us to a great ramen place for dinner and Keyala found a great cute pub down a dinghy alley Nell Gwynn’s where we watched the Paris Olympics opening ceremony on tv while fights erupted at the other end of the tiny bar.

  • Notting Hill and V&A museum

    July 27, 2024 in England ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Saturday morning in London was spent at Portobello road market in Notting Hill. The fashion was vintage watches, vintage lockets, vintage clothing and art.

Saturday afternoon was spent in the Victoria and Albert museum. A Taylor Swift exhibition had opened that day showing outfits from all her eras. We stayed until close but could have spent many more hours there. Next time!Read more

  • The dingier the alley the better the pub

    July 28, 2024 in England ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

The sun was shining in SoHo for our British music and historic pub tour.

We started the day with a hot tip from Georgia, delicious pastries from the Fortitude bake house in Russell square and catching up on some laundry.

Our pub crawl started at Piccadilly Circus with our guide Carlos and pub crawl buddies from stuttgart, Sweden and the USA.

Duke of argyll, a traditional Samuel smith public house with all British brewed beverages.

By the second pub/ pint, The coach and horses, Keyala brought out her newly acquired German with our German tour buddies who didn’t speak English and overestimated her German skills.

The dog and duck was a very cute pub where we moved onto the G&Ts.

Our last pub/pint was The ship ( previously known as The marquis) where bands like the who, the clash, jimi hendrix and David Bowie hung out.

    July 28, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

For our last night of mother daughter backpacking, Keyala found an awesome blues bar. We headed back into soho to the Aint nothing but the blues bar. It was such a great fun vibe both the people watching of the hardcore blues fans and dancing to the band who made up the lyrics as the went along.

Luckily pubs close at 11pm in London as Keyala had a 4.30am start for contiki the next morning.

  • Moma

    August 1, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

    | started my last day of solo travel in New York with an iced golden latte, excited to see my family after a short 24 hour flight. I popped over to MOMA for the morning, saw the starry night, when a little message popped up on my phone. 'Flight to Sydney cancelled. We've rescheduled your flight to tomorrow. So l spent the day in MOMA until it closed, contemplating my next move (and calling insurance and airlines). Guess I'll be here a little longer.Read more

  • Last drinks

    August 2, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 33 °C

Last day solo travel NYC take 2: started with a lucky iced matcha latte.
Popped over to look around Greenwich village and bam... flight cancelled and rescheduled to tomorrow.
A very polite phone call to the airline and they managed to find me another flight today
Bread and butter for lunch (times are tough)... sour dough, smoked butter with a dirty martini ( maybe not so tough). And then regrets... maybe I should have stayed in the big apple for just one more day...
