  • Full moon festival

    September 29, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

We headed to the other side of the island for the Full Moon festival. We took a Songthaew Taxi which is basically a Ute with bench seating zip ties in and a roof. Thankfully the roof goes over the drivers cab so you don’t get whacked with palm leaves like we did in Mekong.

We met a lovely couple in the songthaew who had been living in Koh Phangan for 5 months and gave us all the hot full moon tips on where to buy drinks (peach soju) and avoid the sketchy homemade alcohol, and where to get the glow body painting done and how to avoid having your hair burnt off by fire twirlers.

We had a great time at the full moon festival. There were heaps of other families. We got face paint, watched the fire twirling, danced to the music on the beach and when the cloud of marijuana above us got a little too thick we decided to head home.

Our new friends kept partying until 5am but we were home in bed by 12.30.

We’d heard wild stories of the full moon festival when we were backpacking around Thailand after uni and is still seems just as fun.

  • Beach day

    September 30, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

We did some good sleeping in today and then went out to explore the town. Chaloklum basically consists of a beautiful beach scattered with a pier and a few small restaurants and a sleepy Main Street with a dive shop, a laundry, a bakery, seafood restaurants and a couple of cannabis shops. We unsuccessfully went on the search for a massage place but we’re a bit sunburned so probably best that we didn’t find it.Read more

  • Bottle beach with Mr Mee

    October 1, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

There are not the usual hawkers harassing you on the streets of chaloklum. They do get you in other ways though. We tagged Koh Phangan in one of our Instagram posts and got some locals offering their services like cheap tattoos via message. We also must have caught the eye of mr mee who noticed we were staying in the airbnb and popped by each morning to see if we wanted to go snorkeling.

We took him up on the offer and he charged us an extortionate amount to go on his mate’s long tail boat for an afternoon snorkel at haad ko and have some lunch at bottle beach.

The snorkeling was beautiful like swimming through a tropical aquarium with giant clams of every colour. Bottle beach was picturesque. There were some beach bungalows for $24 per night and a small restaurant but it seemed pretty remote.

  • Night markets

    October 1, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

On Sunday nights the pier at chaloklum buzzes with a big night market. For $26 total we had a feast for dinner including cocktails, beer, slushies, sausages on a stick, spring rolls, dumplings, quail eggs, noodles, avocado salad 🥗, rambutans, lollies, and donuts.Read more

  • Shopping day

    October 2, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Big day today. We set the hammock up inside the house, read / did homework for a few hours then went shopping in Thong Sala. Dinner at Phan tip markets was $24 for all of us and included kebabs, sushi, dumplings, egg rolls, cheese rolls and spring rolls, coconut fritters, a couple of beers and a berry smoothie. India and Ari went in search of clothes to replace the well worn items that have been traveling with us for 6 months.Read more

  • Chasing waterfalls

    October 5, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

We hired a little Suzuki today and got a National Park pass to see some more of the island. First stop was Noi waterfall which unfortunately had noi water but it did have lots of pretty butterflies.

  • Biggest tree in Koh Phangan

    October 5, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

This tree comes up in multiple guides as one of the the top ten things to do in Koh Phangan. 😆 So we did it. 😂 It’s a Yang Na Yai tree.

  • Another waterfall

    October 5, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Can’t remember the name of these waterfalls. A sign on the road said waterfall 100m but neglected to say that only included 50m of track. The rest was sliding down rocks and swinging on vines. Sadly my sunglasses didn’t make it out of the waterfall alive. They are currently down a ravine between two rocks for the rest of time. Very pretty place though.Read more

  • Than Sadet waterfall and beach

    October 5, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Than Sadet beach was another stunning beach on the east side of Koh Pha Ngan. The little restaurant was great. Hammocks in the trees. They have little bungalows and treehouses that you can stay in for around $22/ night.
A wild pig was randomly sun baking on the beach.

  • Sunset cocktails

    October 5, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

A lovely day chasing waterfalls called for a lovely evening. We went right up the mountain to catch the sunset with some cocktails and a mango sticky rice at the tomorrow X restaurant.

  • Phangan elephant sanctuary

    October 6, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Last full day on the world tour. We probably won't be hanging out with elephants again in the near future. We had an elephant-food cooking class this morning and fed these big girls a portion of the 350kg they eat each every day. We wandered with them through the Thai jungle and had a wonderful time just hanging out with these majestic beasts.

I took 150 photos of these guys!

  • More elephants

    October 6, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Also funny fact. Lou Carpenter from neighbours does the safety briefing video for the elephant sanctuary.

  • A view from the top

    October 6, 2023 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

We took the little Suzuki up a very hairy track to the top of Koh Phangan to the 420 bar previously known as the 360 bar. Great views from the top. I think it an an abandoned building that has been repurposed into a bar and restaurant with the best views on the island.Read more
