The Kings Arms, Sandford-on-Thames

The remainder of the walk was in truth a bit harder. It returned to fields and less well made paths, particularly as we approached Abingdon itself where the path was also graced by a fallen tree.

We arrived in Abingdon in good time, were in another pub resting our sore feet before long and walked the mile or so to our hotel.

With a longer day tomorrow I think we’ll get a taxi to our start point tomorrow where we head for Benson. Will be a hard day I think but we’re ready.
I have no idea where or what the Vale of White Horse is but Garmin said my walk was there (and began or ended there or something) and I like the name so I’m running with it.

Immediately, we were pretty much back on rough tracks again while walking right next to the Thames itself. There were good patches certainly but much of today was through fields and at one stage we Czytaj więcej
We stopped for a break at the Barley Mow in Clifton Hampden, the pub (in a previous form I dare say) appearing in the book Three Men In A Boat. We had a lovely stop actually coming across another Czytaj więcej
Where the River Thame joins the Thames
We walked on towards here in Benson having another stop around half way along just to have a sit by the river itself on the bank. Very relaxing and restorative. Czytaj więcej
The final stretch into Benson was a little heavy going but as always once you can see your destination it always helps. And especially today given today’s destination was the Waterfront Café which Czytaj więcej
Our hotel for the night was the Crown Inn where we had a lovely welcome from Lexi and we just felt the most comfortable possible. The room tray even had a couple of bottles of the local beer and they Czytaj więcej
