    First night in Thailand

    February 6 in England ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

First night in Thailand and we're staying at an airport hotel in Bangkok as flying to Phuket in the morning. Rooftop terrace bar; live music and planes coming into land every few minutes !!!
D's idea of heaven 😁 !!!Read more

  • Day 2 Samet Nangshe

    February 7 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Flew down to Phuket then a driver took us up to Samet Nangshe, beautiful views over the islands - really like nothing else we've seen. View from the room (villa half way up the hill), pool and restaurant all surreal. The room was decorated for our wedding anniversary (25th ! ofc D phoned ahead to tell them!!). Had a great swim; drinks & dinner in the hotel. What a location !!Read more

  • Day 3 Phang Nga Bay

    February 8 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Early start this morning to watch sunrise over the islands in Phang Nga Bay from a viewing platform. Although the cloud shaded the sun it was still incredible watching dawn break over the bay, particularly as we were the only ones there (no one else was getting up at 6am !!) .
Then on to an early morning long-tail boat trip around some of the islands which took us under some of the overhangs at the base of the islands, scary having millions of tons of rock overhead with no visible support. There was also a chance to climb up the side of one of the islands into some caves (not for the faint hearted).

Had lunch at the viewpoint cafe just above our room - more stunning views.
Whilst we were having dinner in the outdoor restaurant at the hotel a thunder storm broke over the bay lighting up the islands in the dark - it was surreal - all went well til the storm suddenly came right over the hotel & all the guests rushed for cover food & drinks in hand !!

A great day with fantastic and changing views of the island as the weather came in.

  • Sunrise to sunset

    February 9 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

We have now moved south to Phuket - having watched a sunrise on one side of the peninsula (Phang Nga bay) to seeing the sunset on the other side (Kamala). We're in to a beautiful hotel on Kamala beach - overlooking the bay & with a fantastic view of the sunset every evening. Included some pictures from the gym with the best view ever and then last night's starter (soft shell crab... Not for the faint hearted!!)Read more

  • Nai Harn

    February 12 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

We arrived at The Nai Harn (hotel named after the location) yesterday. The hotel is at the end of a beautiful beach, built into the hillside with views across the bay. Sunsets from the bay are amazing, there was a mojito kit waiting for us in the room, so our stay is already off to a cracking start!! We picked up a scooter this evening and so hope to tour round the Rawali peninsula tomorrow.Read more

  • Motor scooter adventure !!

    February 14 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Early start to head around the peninsula on our recently acquired scooter, after a very tentative start we got the hang of it and were (not quite) bombing around like locals 😂. Visited lots of coves and beaches then spent a lovely afternoon on the huge cabana on our balcony and then beach, before dinner in the local seafood restaurant (shack) overlooking the sea. Finished the day with cocktails at the hotel outdoor bar overlooking the bay ( and their ornamental pond with built in fire pit) !Read more

  • Koh Phi Phi

    February 16 in Thailand ⋅ 🌧 28 °C

After an early swim in Nai Harn we moved on to Koh phi phi today, took a speed boat ferry from Phuket, the crossing was fast and smooth and as we landed we were met by the hotel with a cart to take our luggage ( no cars on the island !!). We didn't book early for this leg of the trip so there was very little choice on our accommodation also it's Chinese New Year today & half term - luckily our hotel is actually very good !! We booked a boat trip for the day that sets off at 6:30am to the surrounding Islands. Just after we checked in, the island lived up to its name and it started peeing down 😂, really not for long & then everything was dry again in moments. Went to a local restaurant (Chinese/Thai), had to queue to get in , but well worth the wait (very very basic place but amazing food).Read more

  • Non stop action packed day !

    February 17 in Thailand ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

Very early start to head out island hopping - first stop a stunning sunrise over the east of Phi Phi. Then Maya bay - home to baby shark (see pic below!!) & onto idyllic beaches, swimming and snorkeling spots - monkey bay; bamboo island & some northern bays. Highlights were snorkeling with a giant turtle as well as amazing fish & coral in every colour, shape and size.

After the boat dropped us back to the harbour & in between visiting a few bars - we both had our first Thai massage !! Very relaxing !!

Then a (very very) steep walk through the forest on the island to a sunset viewpoint & bar which had amazing views out over Phi Phi. There was no alcohol allowed up there - soft drinks only at the bar - which made complete sense when we saw the sheer drops all around us & no safety features like fencing or railing in sight !! Following a tricky decent we headed into a buzzing town to see some of the fire shows on the beach and have (another) delicious Thai dinner.
Of course we had to finish this action-packed long day with a cocktail overlooking the bay.

Two days in Phi Phi have felt like a week as we've crammed in as much as we could !!
Tomorrow morning we get a ferry over to Krabi.

  • Krabi !!

    February 18 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

From Koh Phi Phi we took a speed boat to Krabi. The crossing on a relatively small boat was bumpy & all of the passenger luggage was stashed at the front of the boat (see pic!) - as the waves got higher the luggage started to bounce up & down which led to one of the crew climbing out to hold onto the bags before they bounced over the side into the sea !!!

From the port (make shift pier on a river bank) we headed up the coast to the hotel - WOW - the rooms, food and the views across the sea to the numerous islands in the bay - we are blown away !

So - instead of more island hopping - we spent the day relaxing on the beach, swimming in the sea and soaking up the amazing view !!

Have decided this is probably the nicest hotel we've ever been to!

One more day here before the last leg of the trip to Bangkok.

  • The last leg!!

    February 21 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

After some relaxing days in Krabi enjoying the stunning views & sunsets & sitting on the beach & sailing around the bay & dining by the beach.....we've now flown up to a manic Bangkok !

Headed straight out to Chinatown - we had dinner on the roadside at a Chinese seafood place (what could possibly go wrong!!) and then onto a music bar ( pictures of Dhun dodgy-dancing & singing with the locals below!).

We are staying on the river with amazing views over the city and the river itself, could spend hours just sitting here watching the boats go by. Taxi service from one side of the river to the other is such fun !! Loving it here !!

  • 5 days in Bangkok

    February 25 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

What a city ! We love it !!
Every morning we've been setting off to see the sights of Bangkok - generally travelling by river boat which is always an adventure ! So many temples & interesting areas. So many bars & restaurants - food has been delicious ! Then by late afternoon we always manage to get an hour or so by the hotel pool - which looks onto the river !
One of the highlights was a river dinner cruise, where Dhun got to go full 'Kate Winslet' with our table right at the front of the boat (an old rice barge) everything was fantastic, food, views and service (no doubt aided by us opting for the 'free flow' drinks option 😉) .

Bangkok has been a fantastic end to an amazing trip.

The 3 weeks have flown by yet it seems like months ago we were watching our first sunrise over Phang Nga bay.

We fly home tonight - will miss Thailand & the wonderful welcoming people here.
