Very cold morning but it keeps us moving quickly. Continue along our side road stopping at the local trout hatchery. Rejoin the busy highway, stopping at recommended ice cream shop. Last leg to Fernie. Beer off the busy and sketchy highway and onto quiet forest road which we ride all the way to Fernie. Check into hostel and have pizza!Read more

  • I ❤️ tailwinds

    September 16, 2024 in Canada ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

Very clear and chilly morning. Hard to get out of the tent. Manage to motivate and hit the road. A nice stiff breeze pushes us south. Leave one of the mountain ranges behind and enter more farmland. Stop at Norbury Lake.Read more

  • Lussier Hot Springs

    September 15, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Opt to take a day to go to nearby hot springs. They are only 20 km up a gravel road. Most of it wasn’t too bad. Soak for awhile amongst many others. Manage to grab a ride down from a lovely British family. Seek out the source of the Columbia. Quite clean!Read more

  • Ah the joy of wind in your face

    September 14, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Sleep in as our room is very dark. And it’s drizzly out. Finally get ourselves up and out and head into the dreary day. Though rain was forecasted to end early, it continued to drizzle on us. And it was windy. Make it to Canal Flats and the headwaters of the Columbia river.Read more

  • Through the Columbia Valley

    September 13, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Foggy and misty start to the day. As we leave Golden the mountains begin to poke through. The day clears as we head south along the Columbia River between two mountain ranges. Hear rustling in a tree on the other side of the road and see a mama bear and two cute cubs. We scurry away. Day clouds up and a bit of rain falls as we finish our 65 mile day in Radium. Deer and big horn sheep roam the streets.Read more

  • Onto Golden … by bus

    September 12, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

After a rainy night, take some time to dry out. Pack up and ride to Revy ski mountain and meander around. Back into town for some lunch before wrapping our bikes for bus ride over the pass. Beautiful scenery without breaking a sweat! Arrive pretty late and race to set up before dark and rain. Somewhat successful with that.Read more

  • Where there’s fire there is smoke

    September 8, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Awaken to an orange sun indicating a smoky day. Check out our waterfall and then begin a hilly and very smoky day. We could see the fires still burning as they had been for almost 2 months. Conditions improve as we head north though it is difficult to see the peaks around us. Push on to Naskup and stay at municipal park.Read more

  • Along the Slocan Valley trail

    September 7, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

In another route change, opt to head north again. Backtrack for about 12 miles and then get on Slocan Valley Rail trail. Beautiful pavement quickly gives way to dirt and at times loose gravel - but generally a very good trail along the Slocan river. Stop for lunch and swim. Stop at a campground in Slocan.Read more

  • Myra Canyon

    August 29, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Very chilly morning but clear skies and no wind. Continue along KVR which is sandy and rutted. Relatively flat so plod along. After being warned of bears “up ahead”, finally come upon one. They move on fairly quickly. Ride over Bellevue trestle on our way to Myra Canyon. 18 trestles and 2 tunnels to make it over and around a canyon. Appears a lot of it was burned in 2003 and was remade - amazing! Another 20 bumpy miles and make it to Hydroelectric reservoir.Read more

  • Kettle Valley Rail trail

    August 28, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Though we have told that the trail can be pretty rough, opt to backtrack again to Penticton to continue our eastward journey on the KVR. Out of Penticton, the trail is amazing - winding along the lake and amongst vineyards. Stopping is very tempting but up we must go. The elevation grade is low so we manage to climb without much strain. The trail does deteriorate towards the end making for a slow finish. Opt to camp at Chute Lake resort. Need showers!Read more
