  • Into the wind

    September 16, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌬 15 °C

Beautiful sunny morning but crazy wind. Off we go, unfortunately with wind in front of us. Admire the cliffs as we pedal downhill. Finally turn a corner onto Dingle peninsula and fly to our campground by Inch Beach.Read more

  • Exploring Dingle

    September 17, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Opt to stay at our campground another night and explore Dingle more easily. Beautiful green hillsides. Mountains are bigger and seem to take up more of the peninsula. Dingle is a busy tourist town on a pretty bay. Go a bit further onto the peninsula. Take the bike route back and find ourselves in a cow traffic jam. Just don’t think about the “mud” we are riding through.Read more

  • Amongst the sheep

    September 18, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌬 15 °C

Mostly sunny morning. Get a nice early start but then delayed by a flat tire. Having avoided the treacherous Connor Pass find ourselves climbing on a quiet road which deteriorates into an overgrown farm road which becomes a sheep field. Amazing views and plenty of sheep shit. But lovely. Cruise o down. Sit and eat scones while awaiting a passing shower. Find a kitten on the road and after pondering whether I should take it - the owner comes and claims her. Happy ending. Continue into the wind. No good camping spots so end in a warm hotel.Read more

  • Onto Clare County

    September 19, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

Winds continue to howl but we were warm in our hotel. Start the day with a traditional Irish breakfast - not my favorite. Have a great tailwind to the ferry at talbert to take us across the bay. Ride in and out of the wind through very quiet farm lands. Find ourselves in a deserted caravan park. Able to tuck in between mobile homes and stay dry in their brand new kitchen.Read more

  • Kilkee Cliffs

    September 20, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

We survived the night and awake to sun. And it changes but still much better than it has been. Face the wind for a bit and after a quick visit to a castle, head north with the wind. Travel along Loop Head peninsula and come upon Kilkee Cliffs. Amazing!! Rest of the ride is through countryside with rainbows around every turn. Stay at another deserted campground. Pub dinner as too cold to stay outsideRead more

  • Cliffs of Moher

    September 21, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Short day planned. Late start as we warm up in the sunshine and fight off aggressive farm animals. Short delay to deal with flat tire and then up to Cliffs of Moher. Many tourists but somehow manage to get in for free. Cruise down to Doolin and nice lovely campground.Read more

    September 23, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

  • A mountain top attempt

    September 26, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

With our hiking route planned, we head off into the cloudy day with hopes of climbing a popular summit in the Wicklow park. Easy trail to start yet it eventually comes to a waterfall. Quite the scramble up amongst the sheep and boggy terrain. Wind and storm clouds emerge. Call it and head back down after a quick lunch. One of our smarter moves. Nice day anyway!Read more

  • Up the Spinc

    September 28, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌬 15 °C

Better weather has us out the door early for another hike. Though it is right next to where we had been earlier it is on the other side of the hills. Well marked trail up and over Spinc - a ridge on the top of the mountain. Many more people, including gaggles of school kids. Though the sun never popped out it was beautiful.Read more

Sunny drive north toward Belfast. With no fanfare, enter Northern Ireland. Hit some highlights of the city including the St. George”s marketplace and Botanical gardens. • Onto Kilkenny

    October 5, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

A rainy morning this we dawdled around in our dry kitchen. Finally head out into the drizzle and relatively calm day. Nice campground complete with a resident whom we quickly befriend.Read more

  • Kilkenny

    October 6, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

With lots of time and few miles to our ferry opt for a day to explore Kilkenny and celebrate our anniversary. Drop my bike off for a tune up and head to the castle. Many churches and cathedrals within small town. Nice dinner back at our campsite - providing the kitten with her own kibbles.Read more

  • Back to the sea

    October 7, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

A sad goodbye to our friend. Wish we could take her as she seems to have no owner and is pregnant. Very warm day - even back in shorts. Ride through farmlands - complete with usual sights and smells. Even a lengthy cow crossing. Arrive at our campground on the inlet. Another very nice kitchen set up.Read more

  • Day 100

    October 9, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Incredibly foggy morning as we can barely see the water in front of us. It lifts enough for us to make the short ride to Wexford - a small harbor town near our ferry departure. Great cooking facility and enjoy a lamb dinner.Read more
