  • Mount Robson Pt 2

    11 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

An earlier start up to the park. Stop at Rearguard falls - the furthest the salmon get in their return trip. None to be seen but pretty spectacular falls. Continue up and head out on Berg trail to Kinney lake. Again storm clouds roll in. Another ice cream and another unsuccessful attempt to beat the rain. Dry again at site but clouds never really clear.Leer más

  • Mount Robson Pt 1

    10 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Decide to stay at our campsite and ride the 10 miles up to the park (so many amenities- Adirondack chairs, bath mats…). Beautiful ride up with the peaks appearing around each corner. Decide to go on a shorter hike to Overlander falls. Get ice cream by the visitor center and watch skies darken. Book on down, getting caught in a bit of rain. Back at our site it is sunny.Leer más

  • Tete Jeanue

    9 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Did a grocery run before heading out so we would have enough food while we hung out by Mt. Robson. Finding food is proving to be a bit challenging. Pretty straight shot to the intersection with Hwy 5 which we will take when we head south. The sky is lookjbg quite ominous, especially in the direction we are headed. After much deliberation, opt to stay at a lively campground by the river. Skies clear.Leer más

  • McBride

    8 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Managed to not get eaten by bears or kicked out of the rest area. Did pack up early and hit the road before 9. A long and hilly day awaited us to make it to our first town (and grocery store) since Prince George. Gradients weren’t too bad as we rolled towards the Rockies. Had lunch by one of the many rivers that crossed our path. A last long downhill and we were in McBride. Shared a pint of ice and then found our campground.Leer más

  • Finding rest at the rest area

    7 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Left the lovely lakeside campsite (with pit toilets that were actually flush) and continued eastward into the mountains. No services or houses, just trees, creeks and mountains. Stopped at an
Ancient Forest - huge trees including one called Treebeard. Another few miles and we were at an elaborate rest area - decided to stealth camp.Leer más

  • Lake Purden

    6 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Left our comfy hotel and headed out through Prince George. It still seems fun down even though it is busier than yesterday. Cross the wide Fraser river and back up on to the plateau. Ride a nice quiet side road for a bit and then back to Hwy 16. While we are headed towards Jasper and the fires we will turn south before it. The road is eerily quiet as it is still closed up ahead and thus less traffic in either direction. Stop for the night at Purden Lake PP and enjoy the quiet.Leer más

  • Nothing is perfect

    3 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Very blue sky as we head out of town. Roads are relatively quiet - perhaps logging trucks have the weekend off. Road improves a bit as well and make good time to Vanderhoof. We Stop for lunch and on the way out discover I have a flat tire. First in 13 months. And it was a 2.5 inch nail that did it. Relatively quick change and we are off. Find our way to Brookside ‘resort’. Not much there but we are offered free camping. Take it!Leer más

  • Fraser Lake

    2 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Continuing through the Lake District, pass through small town of Topley. Continue along the Buckley river. Although we pass through ‘wildlife corridors’ - no wildlife to be seen. Snow covered peaks are behind us now and green forests prevail. Warmth has definitely returned and arrive in the town of Fraser Lake quite toasty. Opt to stay at municipal site by the lake as opposed to pressing on to the provincial park. Nice lake side view. Another quick dip in the quite chilly water.Leer más

  • Burns lake

    1 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

As promised, the sun is shining and summer has returned. A nice ride with one big hill (don’t quite know what the 6 mile name refers to). Road fairly busy with logging trucks and RVs. Arrive at free municipal campsite in Burns Lake. Mange to get mostly in before doing laundry and getting groceries.Leer más

  • Houston

    31 de julio de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Early morning rain makes for a very delayed start. Eventually sun peaks through and we are able to dry out the tent. Ride along the Buckley river heading south. Even have a bike path for a bit. Clouds occasionally open up on us. Fortunately find a little rec site for lunch before going up the big climb of the day - ‘hungry hill’. Get hit with a headwind on the way down but make it to Houston. Get food and head to Shady Rest RV.Leer más

  • Trail to town

    30 de julio de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Day off bikes to explore around Smithers. Thick cloud cover but no rain in the forecast. Hike up Joe’s trail - a wide trail that went to the base of the skyline chairlift. Nice wildflowers and huckleberries along the way. Back in town try Smithers Brewery. Pick wild raspberries with our campground and have a mostly foraged crisp for dessert.Leer más

  • Smithers

    29 de julio de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Sun is shining- allowing us to glimpse the mountains all around us. Short ride to Smithers on newly paved road. Check into municipal campground and then walk to town. Continue our BV ale trail at Buckley Vally Brewing. Gather groceries and have enormous burgers for dinner.Leer más

  • And then it rains

    28 de julio de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

With threatening skies, get an early start to try and get ahead of the rain. Misting ensues but nothing much as we arrive in Hazelton in time for their farmers market. Opt to continue onward even though we are offered a place to stay by a nice woman in front of the grocery store. Though we pass through moose country none are to be found. Rain catches us but make it to Witset and very nice campground!Leer más

  • Kitwanga

    27 de julio de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Day clouds up quickly but a smooth road and tail wind keeps us moving quickly. Wide shoulder continues as we gradually gain some elevation as we ride still along the Skeena. Divert north towards Alaska to get food and stay at free municipal campground in Kitwanga. As weather is a bit threatening, we opt to pitch our tent under the shelter. Only wildlife is a assertive squirrel who is after our food!Leer más

  • Terrace

    26 de julio de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Lovely morning ride to Terrace - first town since Prince Rupert. Once again we are seeking out a bike store for my back rack. Finally replace it. Replenish our food, stop at brewery #2 and make our way north to Kleanza creek PP. Enjoy our beers in the sunshine by lovely creek.Leer más

  • Along the Skeena

    25 de julio de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Cloudy morning but not too chilly. Continue our journey along hwy 16. First must summit Rainbow Pass @ 525 ft 🤣🤣. Nice long down to Skeena river. Followed along it for the rest of the day enjoying an incredibly flat stretch. Bald eagles chattered around us and fish flung themselves through the air for no apparent reason. Day remained rather cloudy. Checked into Kasika lodge and campground.Leer más

  • Eastbound

    24 de julio de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Manage to sleep in even though our neighbors left early to catch the outbound ferry. Pack up and go explore Prince Rupert. Cappuccino and cake for breakfast! Stop by the brewery (1st on this section of BC Ale trail) and get beers for later. Head out of town and go a short distance to Prudhomme Lake PP. spend the afternoon chasing the few sunbeams.Leer más

  • Through the inside passage

    23 de julio de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

A very early wake-up in order to get to the ferry terminal by 5:30. Ride the quiet streets and estuary path as the sky begins to brighten. Board the ferry and grab window seats. Spend the next 16 hours searching for whales (only saw spouts and a distant tail) and generally watching it all go by. Channel was amazingly narrow for much of the time. Arrived very late to Prince Rupert and checked into campground.Leer más

  • Port Hardy

    22 de julio de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Get a late start for our short day to Port Hardy. It’s one of those weather days when the jacket is going on and off as the rain starts and stops. Decide to check out the ferry terminal first so we would know what to expect the next morning. Get to town, grab some lunch and sit (shivering) in park until hostel opens. Check in to our cozy room with a full kitchen. Nice steak dinner.Leer más

  • Alert Bay

    21 de julio de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Another day spent in Port McNeill as we await the post office (needed bike part) and our ferry. Take a short ferry to Cormorant Island and the tiny town of Alert Bay. Do see a few sea creature on the way but no whales. Walk the island, enjoying the First Nations culture and ocean views. Many cool totem poles and cemeteries. Tad bit chilly as summer has seemed to have departed momentarily.Leer más

  • Port McNeill

    20 de julio de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Sunny day but a bit of wind as we ride along Nimpkish Lake. Only get a few glimpses of the lake and no good spots to stop and enjoy it. Do spot numerous peaks with snow. Make our way to Port McNeill and push up to nice campground - with much needed showers. Walk back to town and have very good pizza and beer at local brewery.Leer más

  • Woss Lake

    19 de julio de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Another day of rolling hills. Not too many but rather long. Turn out to be pretty gentle. Pretty toasty day and arrive at tiny town of Woss in need of ice cream. Venture down gravel road to another great rec site right on the lake. Quick dunk serves to cool us off.Leer más
