The Grand Adventure

A bike trip with no end Les mer
  • Tangier

    20. desember 2023, Marokko ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Day spent meandering along the waterfront and getting lost in the tiny alleyways of the Medina and kasbah. So many cats everywhere! Only offered hash a few times 😏 Toured a few museums including the American Legate. Apparently Morocco and US have very long history of friendship. Rain curtailed our exploration. Very nice fish dinner.Les mer

  • Across the peninsula

    21. desember 2023, Marokko ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Even with a relatively early start, leaving Tangier was a bit hectic. No dedicated bike lanes 😏. Smaller streets fed us into the one big road towards Tetouan. Busy road but drivers generally gave us plenty of room. One big up over a mountain range and cruised down to very large city. Somehow managed to wind up pushing bikes through main market. Find our Riad. Explore the maze line alleyways and visit cats.Les mer

  • Tétouan

    23. desember 2023, Marokko ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Sunshine warmed up a chilly morning pretty quickly though breakfast on the rooftop was a bit nippy. Made our way to the enormous cemetery. The pictures don’t begin to capture scope. Also found our way into the separate Jewish one. Wandered more alley ways and saw a bit of the city outside the Medina. Went to a museum depicting life in Tetuoan. Many more cat sightings. And always finding ourselves somewhere we hadn’t been beforeLes mer

  • Into the Rif Mountains

    23. desember 2023, Marokko ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Managed to navigate out of Tetuoan much easier than we came in. A tough ride up and over the mountains but very scenic. Very green with small towns up in the hills. Last push to the hilltop town of Chefchaouen. Check in to nice apartment a bit outside of the main town. Short walk into the Medina for very nice dinner.Les mer

  • Some days ……

    26. desember 2023, Marokko ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

….just aren’t that fun. Did have a lovely breakfast before riding off into a bit of fog. Route kept getting longer as we either missed our turnoffs or opted to not take them. Poverty and lack of infrastructure were very apparent. Finally make it to our hotel that was picked for convenience of location. Just a day to get through.Les mer

  • Volubilus

    27. desember 2023, Marokko ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Short day ahead though we had to climb out of the valley. Passed through olive groves and then rose into barren slopes. Actually a nice change from the day before. Arrived at ancient site of Volubilis. Quite impressive. Only a few more miles to hilltop town of Moulay Idriss. Opted to done at our Riad.Les mer

  • Fes

    30. desember 2023, Marokko ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Took the train to Fes. Bigger and more polished city than Meknes. Many beautiful gates and doors, though guards would not let us take photos. Other sights included the tanneries and ancient tombs.

  • Rabat

    31. desember 2023, Marokko ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

In order to avoid what seemed to be bad roads and traffic, took the bus to Rabat. Quite easy - just rolled the bikes into luggage compartment. Toured around - visiting the Atlantic Ocean, the Kasbah and the mausoleum. Also found a clandestine liquor cave store. Quite bizarre. Nice fish dinner.Les mer

  • Happy New Year

    1. januar 2024, Marokko ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Enjoyed quieter parts of Rabat. Though we couldn’t go inside Chellah, the walls and the birds were quite impressive. Also couldn’t get in to see the palace or the museums (because of holiday). Hung out at the beach and watched big waves. Fabulous Syrian dinner.Les mer

  • South along the coast

    2. januar 2024, Marokko ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Marvelous bike path along the water leads us out of Rabat. Pass by a vet different side of Morocco - a wealthier side. Seem the king also has a lovely palace/compound on the coast as well. A camel sighting and a gaggle of puppies break up the data’s riding. Walk along the promenade to a rather upscale town for dinner.Les mer

  • A day of contrasts

    3. januar 2024, Marokko ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

As we were going to ride through Casablanca we knew it would be busy - which it certainly was. However, occasional bike paths helped. Lots of trucks heading into and out of the giant port. A beautiful and huge mosque graced the southern side of Casablanca. Lots of construction which sometime was done and other times left
the road a mess. Huge homes quickly changed to very simple country lifestyles. Made it to our apartment and after acquiring food, stayed in for the night.

  • Onto El Jadida

    4. januar 2024, Marokko ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Our coastal road was neither coastal nor much of a road. Very chewed up and narrow. Opted to go off onto a smaller road. Though a bit under construction it wound us through farmland and amongst tiny villages. Lots of curious children. Continued to battle the wind as we finally came back to the coast and arrived in bustling (aka hectic) El Jadida. Nice big and cheap apartment. Out for good seafood.Les mer

  • El Jadida

    5. januar 2024, Marokko ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

A rather chill day for us. Late start and wandered into
Portuguese Cite for a late breakfast. Walked within 600 year old fortress and along the walls. Returned via the coastal route which would have been beautiful if not for the mountains of garbage - primarily plastic bottles 😞.Les mer

  • Morocco: Cats and Chaos

    6. januar 2024, Marokko ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

After an 8 hour bus ride, we find ourselves back where we started -Tangier. Our time in Morocco has been great - with some real highs and definite lows. It is a country that should be on bucket lists for the beauty, people, history and food. It has also been a good learning opportunity and an introduction to Africa and traveling in less developed countries. But I think Hannah’s tagline above best sums it up - Cats and Chaos.Les mer

  • España

    7. januar 2024, Spania ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

One last harrowing ride through Moroccan streets got us to our ferry. Just a quick one - and we are back on the European continent. Lovely ride along coast on newly created bike paths. With daylight fading - opt to stay in Barbate vs continue on to camp.Les mer

  • Packing

    13. januar 2024, Spania ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Day spent packing. Added adventure of needing new wheels for Doug’s bike as hub axles are broken. And of course it’s a Saturday, late in the day - this bike stores are closed. Decathlon comes through again. Additional packing boxes and materials are easily acquired. A last tapas dinner out.Les mer
