  • Nelson

    5 de setembro de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Relatively short ride along the river to the hill clinging town of Nelson. As with mist mornings now, need to wait until the sun hits the tent (and us). In Nelson, have a free place to stay. walk down to Kootenay lake. check out one of the three breweries. Then out for pizza.Leia mais

  • Onto Castlegar

    4 de setembro de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

First thing - a 1 km dark tunnel. A tad bit sketchy. However, path on the other side is better and get our first glimpses of the mighty Columbia. Long downhill until we hit the outskirts of town. Stop first for pastries and then go to our campground. Another nice cycle friendly space. See a few elk and wild turkeys.Leia mais

  • Christina Lake

    1 de setembro de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 32 °C

Get an early start to beat the heat. Fortunately get the climb over with early on and then coast for what feels like forever to Grand Forks. Lunch by the river and then wind our way to Christina Lake where it is 97. Check in to lovely bike friendly campground and jump in the pool before heading to the lake.Leia mais

  • Myra Canyon

    29 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Very chilly morning but clear skies and no wind. Continue along KVR which is sandy and rutted. Relatively flat so plod along. After being warned of bears “up ahead”, finally come upon one. They move on fairly quickly. Ride over Bellevue trestle on our way to Myra Canyon. 18 trestles and 2 tunnels to make it over and around a canyon. Appears a lot of it was burned in 2003 and was remade - amazing! Another 20 bumpy miles and make it to Hydroelectric reservoir.Leia mais

  • Kettle Valley Rail trail

    28 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Though we have told that the trail can be pretty rough, opt to backtrack again to Penticton to continue our eastward journey on the KVR. Out of Penticton, the trail is amazing - winding along the lake and amongst vineyards. Stopping is very tempting but up we must go. The elevation grade is low so we manage to climb without much strain. The trail does deteriorate towards the end making for a slow finish. Opt to camp at Chute Lake resort. Need showers!Leia mais

  • OK Fall

    26 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Relatively short day planned - relocate 20 miles south to Okanagan Falls. However, strong headwinds made it much harder. Set up camp and then rode the Kettle Valley Rail trail back to Penticton for a volunteer appreciation dinner. Doug manages to run over the snake I stopped for. Race back to get ice cream before Tickleberry’s closesLeia mais

  • Raceday

    25 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Up early to ride to Penticton for the Ironman. Water looks oddly calm. Seems they had cancelled the swim as too cold. Bizarre time trial bike start. Head to our volunteer station in transition. Our job was to line up racers bags after they changed. Afterwards watched finishers, another stop on Ale trail before heading back to campgroundLeia mais

  • Peachland & Summerland

    23 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

After a nice breakfast, set off on a short day to Summerland. The shorter and scenic route turned out the be quite challenging as we pushed up steep hiking trails. Rewarded ourselves in Peachland with scones. Southward we went - watching dark clouds gather and lightering strikes. Made it to campground with little to no rain.Leia mais

  • Kalamalka Lake

    22 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

Quickly caught the Okanagan Rail trail - a lovely packed gravel route that hugged the coastline on the lake. Path did eventually peter out to nasty single track but then re-emerged as a paved path all the way to Kelowna. Checked out the beach before climbing
UP. Stopped at Little Straw Winery and then went a few blocks to our WarmShowers hosts - Julian & Jill. Had a lovely evening with them!

  • Goodbye Yellowhead Hwy

    20 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

After traveling on the Yellowhead Hwy since landing on the BC mainland a month ago, we say goodbye and head out of Kamloops on a beautiful and quiet road. Hoodoos and mountain goats keep us amused. Cross the river and up we go into the hills. A steep climb gives way to a rolling plateau. Arrive at Monte Lake, a small lake amongst a very burnt area.Leia mais

  • Into the dry hills

    18 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Ride along busy Hwy 5 along N Thompson river. See burnt hillsides all along our way. Stop in Barriere for lunch and ice cream. Sunny skies very quickly cloud over and we race to beat it. And lose. Thunderstorms all around us. Arrive at the campground quite wet. Fortunately there are nice covered areas.Leia mais

  • More falls

    17 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Rain does finally stop in the early morning. Pack up and get a ride further into the park. Short walk to H. Falls and then Dawn falls with an extra one in between. Ride back out of the park and go a very short distance to North Thompson PP. Nice and chilly river. Play a
    round of Bocce.

  • Rainy Day

    16 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Wake up to unexpected rain. Had fortunately covered most things but not everything. Manage to get a break in the rain to make coffee before the rain starts again. Fortunately are offered refuge in one of the buildings that has a kitchen and sitting area. Spend the rest
of the rainy day there. It does allow us to watch Maddie’s White Coat ceremony.

  • Smoke and wind

    13 de agosto de 2024, Canadá ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Hard to tell if it’s smoky or cloudy or just a bit of both. Southerly winds are bringing the smoke from the wildfires. Struggle to see the mountains and glaciers surrounding us. Continue onward to Blue River - a deserted resort town that seems entirely focused on hell-skiing. Walk to nice lake and manage to get in before clouds completely return. Nice kitchen set up in campground.Leia mais
