  • Fat feet, NO sleep, and an Irishman

    January 11, 2024 in Malaysia ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

An extremely long flight from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur.
Sam didn't really sleep at all, very uncomfortable for him. I've had broken sleep but we're nearly there. Not much open at the airport this morning as it's 3am. I think we'll find a place to get some sleep and hopefully our Hobbit feet will reduce in size!Read more

  • Taxi!

    January 11, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

After getting through passport control we knew we needed to get phone Sims and order a grab (Vietnam's uber equivalent) with the aim of avoiding a scam.....
We were bombarded with people offering us taxis with a constant chime of 'taxi' as we walked along the terminalRead more

  • Hia Don Thanh Toan

    January 11, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 34 °C

We were lured in by the cold drinks! It's sooooo hot and we felt very overwhelmed by the whole experience so far.
A delicious peach tea and a kale smoothie in a beautiful uni cafe grounded and fuelled us for what lay aheadRead more

  • War Remnants Museum

    January 11, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 34 °C

The War Remnants Museum was mentioned in most travel guides so we felt it was a must.
It was devastating witnessing all that went on during the Vietnam War and the years following.

  • Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon

    January 11, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

We mooched across the city heading for the Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon. We walked past the Independence Palace which looked stunning from outside the gates and then went on to the Notre Dame. Like many cathedrals we've visited around the world it was mostly in scaffolding during our visit and we could see any way to get it. A quick snap and off we wentRead more

  • Ben Than Market

    January 11, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

I'm always down for a market and was looking for some delicious food and cheap drinks. This market was definitely not that. Absolutely chocka full of shops of clothes, nick knacks and dried foods. Lots of bartering going on... Not us. We've set a goal of heading back tomorrow for some brave barteringRead more

  • Soul Bar

    January 11, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

We found what we were looking for in Soul Bar.... A cold beer. Maybe it was just opening as some parts of it were a construction site but the beers were cold, the view wasn't bad and the company was goodRead more

  • Leffe

    January 11, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

We spotted an even better looking rooftop bar from the soul bar. It was 4 stories up and had an awesome vibes. The beers went down well as we people watched.

  • Mekong Delta Tour

    January 12, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

In a tired daze last night I booked what I thought was the Mekong Delta River and Chi Chi Tunnels tour. Turns out it wasn't.... Just the Mekong Delta today with the Buddhist Temple on the way. We arrived after about a 2 hour trip from Ho Chi Minh City and boarded our boat for the dayRead more

    January 12, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Just around the corner from the honey dining we met Pauline (not its name but sounds cool) the Python. We both got to hold it and take a couple of snaps. I hated the feel of it but a cool experience all the same.Read more

  • Tropical Fruit Platter

    January 12, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

After a short but exciting ride on a golf cart around a small part of the island we dined on more local delicacies of tropical fruit (dragon fruit, pineapple, watermelon, rambutan, and longan) with the locals serenading us with Vietnamese songs. Some of the watermelon and pineapple fruit isn't as sweet as it is back home and the locals often pair theirs with chilli salt. Kinda weird. It was a beautiful setting amongst gardens and a great chance to try new, safe thingsRead more

  • Along the river we go

    January 12, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

After our fruit delights we walked through a farm to see what life looks like on these islands for the locals. We then boarded a small boat and were taken along the river out to our big boat waiting for us. A real surreal moment. Soo special and feeling very blessedRead more

  • Coconut Candy

    January 12, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

We moved onto the next island for some coconut candy. The locals ensure that they use all parts of the coconut to produce candy in all flavours, even durian, biscuits, clothes and the leaves from the tree for houses if required.
The candies were being made in front of us and we got to try a lot of different products.
We then moved down the back of the factory and tried some snake wine...... Over 1 years old with corba and ghecko amongst the chosen snakes..... Very strong unusual taste.
They also had a shop selling crocodile leather....

  • Lunch

    January 12, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

We moved onto the final island for some Mekong Delta delicacies. Fried fish, chicken in lemon grass, veges, fish wice paper wraps and soup. It all tasted delicious and we left with full bellies.
While we waited to board the boat back to the mainland we went for a bike along the island on some dodgy bikes!
The locals love how dirty the water is because it means there's more nutrients in the water for growing their rice and other products and the fish thrive 🤪
We hopped back on the boat for some young coconut water. A great day!

  • Noir Dining in the Dark

    January 12, 2024 in Vietnam ⋅ 🌙 27 °C

Once back at our accommodation we quickly showered and changed and made our way across district 1 to Noir, which was highly recommended by mum and dad's friend Viv.
Here you dine in the dark. We went for the 4 course, 14 dishes with wine pairing. What an experience. Your other senses really come into play but I also felt very vulnerable at times.
I was adamant we were eating the same things all the time but because of my allergies we weren't....this really messed with us because as we'd discuss things that we could taste and the other thought they could taste it too.......
Such a fun experience with our waiter Yal being blind and other staff being deaf.
