Our hell.

We put Rudder into a kennel for the day, as we explored the glow worms and the Lost City around Lithgow.

We got a dreaded call staying he had escaped. He was gone.

We thought it would be a simple return. We would get there and call him and he would come.

We searched from 3pm to 7pm and nothing. As we were heading back to the van for the night we spotted him. Our hearts were relieved. This was it.

Not a chance. We called. He saw. He bolted.

A sleepless night.

A morning of searching.

We moved the van to the kennel. He had returned twice by this time. It was the best chance.

We sat idle for the afternoon noon. It was awkward. We felt like we were doing nothing.

And then we spotted him. I called. He had seen me. He had seen Stirling. Surely he would come.

Not a chance.

Night came and we settled in thinking he would come to the gate by morning.

We heard his bark. Amongst 20+ other dogs and trucks passing by. That was our boy.

Stu walked into the dark. And 20 agonizing minutes later he emerged, Rudder in arms. The nightmare was over.

It was an experience. Our second farm stay not by choice but Stirling had fun chasing the goat.Read more
