Arrived Taupo, dropped off our bags at the Airbnb and headed downtown to check out the village and buy some stuff .

Dinner with the group

Went to the Airbnb that Denise and Andrea (they are racing Ironman World championships on Saturday) were staying at for dinner. We had a wonderful time together ❤️. The ride home was a heart stopper.... The only way back into Taupo was the bridge over the Waikato river. DUI police enforcement. I had 2 rum and diet Coke with dinner. A policeman asked me to say 12345 into a breathalyzer. FAIL!!! Oh shit!!! He asked if I was drinking. Yes 2, with dinner? Yes, pull over onto the grass, shouldn't be a problem he says (didn't help calm us much). Put a tube on the breathalyzer and blow, first time it said I wasn't blowing hard enough, repeat and the second time it shows PASS. He asked me to go home....... Scared us @10pm..... Reminder to be smart. I had known that they randomly do DUI checks in New ZealandBaca lagi

You’ll hear the Huka Falls well before you see them – it’s the sound of nearly a quarter of a million litres of water per second erupting from a natural gorge and thundering 36 feet into the Waikato River below. This incredible waterfall is the most-visited natural attraction in New Zealand – it’s hard to tear your gaze away from the endless, mesmerising torrent.

It’s caused by the Waikato River, normally 980 feet wide, being forced to narrow to just 50 feet wide as it passes through a hard volcanic canyon. This increases the flow pressure immensely, causing the water to burst out with great force as the gorge ends.Baca lagi

We had lunch, midway through the day & for only the 2nd time.

Glad we stopped, while kinda crazy we enjoyed something new.
The ride here was quite an experience. The main highway, State Route 1 was particularly closed for construction. Had to do a UTurn was a hair puller. Had to ask Audrey to drive.Baca lagi

Part of our trip planning was sunscreen is required. The ozone layer over New Zealand thins during summer, providing less protection from UV sunlight when closest to the sun and highest in the sky & I tend to get sunburnt.
So I got a Bucket hat. I had 2 Kodak Hat pins & a Paris Olympics Hat pin at the start. During our trip we shopped for souvenirs, including Hat pins. Here's my collection. It was so much fun collecting and they will provide good memories in the future. Now search for ducks 🦆 to add to my collection.....Baca lagi
