  • Digging a hole

    25 de abril de 2017, Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

We continued with digging the hole. First it seemed like it's gonna take ages, but we finished one hour before works end. Pretty crazy. We had been 3-4 people in the hole digging and some more around to empty the filled buckets and bring them back. Was great teamwork. After work it's always the same procedure: everyone goes back home, tries to get a free "shower" (there are only 4 for about 120 people :D), meeting at 6 and dinner at 7. In between there's time to go "shopping", relax, chat, do laundry, whatever you want.Leia mais

  • Digging again and mixing concrete

    26 de abril de 2017, Nepal ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

In the morning I was in the backfilling team again: shoveling dirt into buckets and putting it back into the buildings (to reach the floor level). Hard work again, but we had good music and fun with dancing, singing, just being happy at work :D. In the afternoon I switched to the concrete mixer. I had to throw the ingredients in and was responsible for the right amount of water. The concrete was used as matrix for the steel reinforcements.Leia mais

  • Handover

    28 de abril de 2017, Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

Today we went to another project of All Hands. They just finished the school was officially handed over to the students/village. People were dancing, celebrating, having fun. There was a parade through the village with lots of volunteers and the local people. Some were wearing traditional clothes and dancing to their music. As we came close to the school the students formed like a tunnel for us volunteers and everyone got one of the traditional Nepalese heats. It was amazing to see how happy the children have been and clapped for us. Then the boring part (speeches, greetings,... :D) started. In the end we had lunch together.
All in all a very fascinating day. We could see how the schools we're building will (hopefully) once look like and how happy the people are about it. And we could discover more of the Nepalese culture and traditions.

  • Going to the hospital

    30 de abril de 2017, Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

I've got some problems with my stomach since Thursday. So I had to go to see a doctor today. Diagnose: salmonella (or something like that) 🙈. That means antibiotics and other medicaments and 7 days bed rest. Sounds worse than it is, because if feel quiet good and could eat and drink again in the evening (without problems). The hospital was really simple (compared to Germany), but service was excellent. I only had to wait some minutes and the doctor took good care of me.Leia mais

  • First restday

    1 de maio de 2017, Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Sleeping, reading a book, walking around. It's really hard to do nothing (especially because I don't fill ill). In the evening the local builders came to camp. It was good to meet them not only at the worksite. They could talk with us about other topics than work and improve their English. We danced with them and it was great to see them happy and having fun.Leia mais

  • Building a chessboard

    3 de maio de 2017, Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

It's really boring. So we decided to build a chessboard and figures out of parts we found at the base. Was great fun and doesn't look too bad. In the evening we went to the school for Englisch lesson with some children. We just talked with them and played some games. Loud and chaotic, but they're really happy because they can speak Englisch with us and asked lots of questions.Leia mais

  • Riding to the Chinese border

    6 de maio de 2017, Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

We had three motorbikes and decided to ride to the Chinese / Tibetan border. The ride was amazing, having a good view on the valleys and mountains and enjoying the breeze. The closer we came to the border, the poorer it became and there had been lots of buildings that were destroyed by the earthquake 2 years ago. The border was just a bridge and they allowed us to walk to the middle of it (and one step further, so we can say we had been in Tibet :D). After we took some fotos we went back to base and arrived just before it began to rain. All in all a very adventurous day, with lots of fun, new impressions from Nepal and good food.Leia mais

  • Back to work

    11 de maio de 2017, Nepal ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

Sunday I could finally go back to work 👍 I did lots different jobs, we went down to the river, filled a 1000l barrel and brought it back to the site. Funny but also very bumpy ride on the back of the truck with amazing views. Anothet day we went to cut bamboo and brought it to the site. We used it to build the scaffolding around the houses, as they become higher ever day.Leia mais

  • First time in Chamuna

    12 de maio de 2017, Nepal ⋅ 🌙 11 °C

This weekend there are gonna be local elections the first time since 19 years. Here in Thulopakhar the school is used for the elections and there might be some troubles. Because of this it was decided not to work today. So I went to the second project in Chamuna, this is half an out bus ride away. But work there is basically the same (mixing masala/concrete, tying rebar, cutting and watering bricks,...). It was very hot and steamy, but we kept on working.Leia mais
