  • Inspiration across the Nullabor

    31 Maret, Australia ⋅ 🌙 19 °C

It was a big travel day today, 9 hrs drive to try and catchup a little on the time difference. Stopped off at Cocklebiddy for a quick lunch and settled at Mundrabilla Roadhouse again for the night. On the way back again passing many cyclists challenging themselves to cross the Nullarbor. One inspiring young Welsh man, oh my goodness, what a story, Garry and I were in awe of his achievements and spoke for quite some time. He just rode in and had just riden an astonishing 111km today in one day and against the head wind. 😳 He started his journey over a year ago, left home, South of Wales, cycled across the UK, Greece and Asia, was excited to be in Australia to have some English banter again after travelling foreign countries. His mission is travelling from south of Wales to NSW, across North and south NZ, east to west US before Panama, Rio, Spain and home. He looked tired, as you would, but still spritely enough as we spoke about his journey forward. Garry and I congratulated him on his efforts so far and wished him all the best as we came back for dinner, amazed. We have been really fortunate this trip to have had some special interactions with great people, travelling is the best.Baca selengkapnya

  • Crossing the Nullabor Day 2

    1 April, Australia ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

We headed off this morning early as the time difference changes rapidly from 3 hrs behind in WA, to varying times across the Nullarbor, hard to get Garry's head around, 3 different time zones. Still plenty of road trains, with 2 being 8.5 mtrs wide and having to pull completely off the road. We headed out to the Pink Lake at Penong, which was evaporated a fair bit after the hot summer, more like coconut ice colour and saw the huge Gypsum mines. Staying at Penong the night, nice quiet little town, everything is white and dusty from the gypsum, more to come.Baca selengkapnya

  • Moonlight on the Bay

    3 April, Australia ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

Beautiful night on the Bay, with the stars and moon reflections on the water 🥰 One more day here, and we head to the Flinders Ranges. We have no phone service here or anywhere in the town. Everyone else we talk to are much the same. We have WiFi only for a few minutes at a time at the cvn park. Not sure if we'll have it at the Flinders but will at Broken Hill, our next leg was planned North to Central West QLD but we don't think we'll be able to get through with all the flooding. Will try and work it out when we have service, will keep you posted 😊Baca selengkapnya

Heading to Flinders Ranges tomorrow, have had no phone signal for the last 4 days only WiFi when we can get it, will be much the same the next 4 days.

  • The Gorges

    6 April, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

We continued through Buneryoo Gorge and headed on through Brachina Gorge, showcasing the geological history. Ended the day at Stokes Hill Lookout, a 360 degree view of the ranges. (Very steep drives straight up the mountain). Such a big area, again, photos don't show the colours as vibrant as they are.
Looking forward to more adventures tomorrow 😊

  • The Blinman Cornish Pasty

    7 April, Australia ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

Next stop - The Miners Crib (bakery)
As the story goes the Cornish Pasty is a tribute to the original miners, they were feed the pasty with veges in first 3/4s and the apple pie at one end, a meal and dessert in one. Apparently, originally they also had a pastry handle to hold onto to eat, but had to discard after eating as they had arsenic on their hands from mining and needed to hold onto something and not touch the food they were eating.
So of course we had to try one, without the pastry handle, it was pretty good with the sweet surprise of apple at the end.

  • Wadna

    7 April, Australia ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

Next stop to Wadna, an authentic aboriginal arts and crafts gallery and local artwork for sale. Met with the local artist and were fortunate to be the only two with him, he also does the guided tours into the Flinders country, we were so lucky to sit and talk about the artwork, culture, area, history etc
Then headed through Parachilna Gorge, passing the infamous "Heysen Trail" where so many hikers start their journey of the challenging hike this area presents and onto Parachilna. Garry thinks, they're a little crazy, I think an amazing achievement.

  • Prairie Hotel Parachilna

    7 April, Australia ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

After driving through the gorge we found ourselves out on the other side of the Outback Hwy, flat terrain again and lots of flies, the in your eyes and nose type, headed to check out the famous Prairie Hotel, well known for their Feral Menu, today was the only day they were closed but apparently booked out most of the week, with so many travellers flocking to try the menu- roo, camel, emu etc
They updated the Hotel as its the only drawcard in town, as there is nothing else in the town except the old railway opposite.
