• Oceanside again in Galveston, TX

    14.–18. nov. 2024, Forenede Stater ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

We were all pretty excited to see the ocean again and the Atlantic Ocean which meant we were that much closer to home! As we pulled into Galveston we were delighted with colorful beach homes in pastel hues. We all remarked how different it was that the homes were on stilts or piles as they are called in the Gulf. Weston thought the construction workers must hate having to build a home that was that high off the ground!
We stayed at Galveston Island State Park, we had a great view of the bay! The mosquitoes were definitely bloodsucking rivals of their Nova Scotia North shore brothers! Bug spray was always at hand! We spent the first couple days exploring the beach and the bay area. We enjoyed some time hanging on the beach and taking advantage of warm ocean temperatures although the waves were a bit rough. This only made it more exciting for the boys.
We took a ferry from Galveston to Port Bolliver. This is a free service that gives you lots of ocean views with lots of dolphin friends to watch. Once we landed in Port Bolliver we discovered there wasn't a lot to do. We decided to get a bite to eat at a fish camp style restaurant that had great margaritas and seafood! Once we were back in Galveston we checked out the historic mansions and the local playground.
Our last day in Galveston we headed about 50 miles north to Houston to check out the Johnson Space Center. We were able to utilize our museum pass and score 4 free tickets! The space centre had endless exhibits of Apollo moon landings along with upcoming moon explorations. We attended a presentation that informed us about the Artemis moon explorations, William was extremely interested as him and Minga had been discussing this earlier this year. We took a tram to rocket park where we marveled at the size of the original Saturn V. We all learned a lot and had an out of this world visit!!
