Bahia Santa Maria

We sailed in motored 240 miles from Turtle Bay in two and a half days. We travel all night, taking four hour watches between the three of us. We’d of course rather sail than motor, but the wind is not always available.
We spend two full days here at Bahia Santa Maria which is part of the much Magdalena Bay complex. Eric and I have come here for fishing several times in the past. There’s no town where we’re anchored but it is a fine Anchorage where we can safely put 100 boats.

What are the sailboat sank by the way coming into Turtle Bay in middle of the night. The cause of the mishap was completely pilot error. In the middle of the night he was staying close to shore and hit a rock rounding a point. Fortunately, one of the boats was anchored nearby was monitoring channel 16., and heard the mayday call. The boat sank within about 15 minutes and everyone was in the water. They had inflated a life-raft on the boat, which you’re not supposed to do, and it got jammed into the life lines. So plan B get in the water with your life vest. Everyone was rescued.

We stayed off the same point about 2 miles on our way in, as did a couple other boats that we could see. And it was daylight.

The only other sinking in the 29 years in the ha ha what is a boat that hit a whale. That suppose that was just bad luck. They did get into their life-raft and were rescued.
