Train from Lijiang to Dali

Today we got up early to visit another nearby lake well known as a resting place for migratory birds after learning at Christmas lunch that they had just arrived. We were somewhat disappointed - the birds were few and far between..
Next we headed to Lijiang station to catch a cross country train to Dali. It was good to be in the country with good views although the line passed through many tunnels So a fair bit of the journey was in darkness. We noticed the same with intercity freeways. Rather than a route that follows the terrain, they go through hills and over valleys on via ducts. Transport infrastructure engineering here is very advanced.
