    Clunes for morning coffee & walk (old Gold town), onto Maldon for lunch. Saw steam train into the station, bought Leigh Alpaca socks. Found old gold dredge & dragline outside Maldon

    Saw Cass and Lochie 9am to check out his steam collection & vintage car
    Via back roads to Deniliquin for coffee then Jerilderie for lunch. Ned Kelly country.
    Walk around the lake, then onto Narrandera via Urana backroads. Stopped by stock walking down the road, with people & kelpie's driving.
    Showgrounds overnight (with disabled ensuite for our own use!)

    Rain started at 10.30 and just kept going all day. Drove via Grong Grong (just a railway /grain siding), West Wyalong, Condobolin- Ute's in the Paddock - and onto a motel in Parkes
    Notable- feral pigs & foxes on the roads, 3 trailer road trains, grain and canola for hectares, and grain silos in abundance 😐Read more

    Long driving day to get north
    Dubbo via Mendooran - coffee, cheese and provisions - Coonabarabran (lunch), then backroads north east
    Gunnedah, Manilla, Barraba, Bingara and stopped at Delunga showgrounds overnight. Back into hills and views rather than flat expanses
    Cloudy start, but sun out and 16 degrees most of the way. 3 overnight 🥶 Snug in the van

  • Macleay Island

    Beautiful morning with fog on the valleys as we drove via Woodenbong (coffee break) onto Beaudesert for lunch. So many flying foxes and ibis's in the trees around the park!
    On to Mt Tamborine and the skywalk - not what we expected - so many people! No accommodation for 50+kms due to NSW school holidays and Curanga Rodeo (who knew?!). Caught up with Ang, and invited to visit with friends @ Macleay Island.Read more

  • Lake somerset camping ground, Kilcoy

    Avoiding Brisbane, via Mt Coot-Tha then onto motorways to go north fast.
    On to Kilcoy then the Lake Somerset Caravan Park to charge batteries and wash clothes
    Very quiet, lots of locals (birdlife, kangaroos)
    Drove around the area - best coffee at Esk we're told, but it's Monday & they're closed 😵‍💫

    Cloudy, windy, wet and miserable at Bunya Mt, so packed up & had a cafe breakfast.
    Drove through the clouds off the mountain & arrived in Toowoomba at 11.30am for lunch with Duncan (cousin) and Joanne at Picnic Point Cafe. Forgot to get a photo.....
    Next morning, visit to Cobb & Co Museum, and found the Steele Rudd Selection on our way south to Warwick

    Easy drive down the road to Warwick, and arrived to a Jumpers and Jazz festival in full swing! Took a 'tree jumper' town tour with local art director.
    Stopped to check out the grand old home 'Glengallan'.
    Passed a large solar farm coming into Warwick.
    Rail trip in the morning, then took the falls roadtrip to Mount Barney

    Road in was interesting! Often one lane, 40km limit. Lots of traffic passing, steep and winding, then turn off onto dirt road, through a couple of creeks, and to farm home. Farm in a wide valley (the gorge) surrounded by national park and NSW/Q border.Read more

  • Boonah

    Boonah is reinventing itself as a steam punk town. Its on a hill surrounded by flood plains- has been cut off by flood waters numerous times over past 3 years.
    Quite a few managed cool burns underway in grass and forested areas.

    Short walk around Mount French for spectacular views over the irrigated farms, and grazing properties. Dairy, beef and crop farming.
    Stocked up on provisions in the morning for the next week - great country town.

    Another remote scenic rim location, with an epic drive on narrow single lane bitumen, single lane 'low level' bridges and onto one car dirt track for the last few kilometres. No creek crossings this time.Read more

  • Laminton Eco Lodge - day 2&3

    Day 2: short walk to the end of the road and lazy afternoon on the deck.
    Day 3: 14 km round trip into Larapinta Falls. Didn't quite make it as the last 2-300m very steep with poorly marked trail.

    Walked into Stinsen Park for coffee (6km each way) closely watched by a butcher bird. The 3 amigos (Leigh, Keith, Steve) repeated on Sunday, and the women had a day of rest.

  • Cotton tree, Maroochydore

    Left Lamington 10, coffee at Beaudesert, then leisurely (!) trip up the motorways and Bruce H'way to Cotton Tree Caravan Park. Our site is 5m from the beach - will be lulled to sleep by the surf.
