    Charged by a Silverback

    April 28 in Uganda ⋅ ☁️ 66 °F

Trekking through the impenetrable forest of Bwindi was intense. Machetes cut through each step. Ten minutes after arriving where their nests were, the silverback charged in but we stood our ground and he relaxed as the guide spoke to him in grunts. As he settled into a tree to eat and watch, all the females, including a mom and baby came down and allowed us into their home.Read more

  • Late for Breakfast

    Apr 2–3 in Namibia ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

It was supposed to be a short drive and breakfast with desert adapted elephants. It became a search of damara land, lost hope, scary moments, and a wonderful reward 6 hours later.

*All pics without elephants were the trails we traversed, sometimes by car, others on foot. When we found the first mama, she charged us. But we were rewarded with a herd of 12 that accepted us on the other side of the hillRead more

  • Rhino Trekking

    Mar 29–31 in Namibia ⋅ ☁️ 90 °F

We worked with Save the Rhinos Trust (SRT), the local conservancy and several of their rhino rangers to venture into the desert and over a couple days follow clues to trek and finally see these two beautiful creatures. The only free roaming black rhinos in the world.

Thanks to Ranger Michael, SRT director Martin, and Guide Jari for an incredible experience. They work tirelessly and make great sacrifices to protect these magnificent creatures. SRT will even safely cut the horns to prevent poaching as you see here.

When I asked Michael what motivates him to do such a difficult job, he smiled, looked at me sheepishly, and said “it’s because I love them!”

  • Carnaval 2026

    February 14 in Brazil ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

Carnaval is where Brazils people and passions shine. Recife Brazil hosts Galo do Madrugada. The largest party on earth; 2.6M people. We followed that with the parades and bands in Olinda. Unlike Rio where you sit and watch, this is considered Brazils most authentic street festival. It felt like Mardi Gras, a 70s free love party, a PRIDE event and a celebration of self all rolled into one. What an experience!!Read more
