    From Frankfurt to Auckland

    December 7, 2024 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

We were lucky to stay a night by our good friends in Frankfurt before we started the longest flight in our lives. 12 hours from Frankfurt to Schanghai and after 4 hours break and a chinese noodle soup at the airport another 12 hours to Auckland. Finally landed in Auckland, we have to consider, it was a challenging experience, particularly with little Louis, who had a typical ,,fomo" and was sleeping just 2 hours during the first flight and maybe 6 during the second, even if we were travelling about 30 hours. We'll see how the Jetlag's gonna hit us.Read more

  • 1. Day in Auckland

    Dec 7–10, 2024 in New Zealand ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

We decided to take a public transport bus to get from the airport to our first Airbnb. After 1,5 hours roundtrip through Auckland and literally jumping out of the bus (because they don't stop for more than 30 seconds) we had a quick breakfast in a park and than explore our first Airbnb at the Queen Street in the City center. We had a quick shower and a small break and started to explore the city. After visiting of the Farmer market (just saturdays) we found a Restaurant in the Viaduct Harbour, which is absolutely to recommend! It's called Soul Bar & Bistro and serve yummy food with absolutely matching wine. William almost fell asleep at the restaurant, so we decided to visit the supermarket then and go home thereafter. We fell asleep at 7 p.m. waking up at 1 a.m. because of the Jetlag. Louis was crying heavily bringing us (and presumably all the other Airbnb guests) on the edge, so I am writing this post at 3 a.m. with a glass of a good New Zealand Pinot Noir after he finally fell asleep, looking forward to take a ferry to Waiheke island in 4 hours. • Rakaia Gorge and first night in a Camper

    December 12, 2024 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

So we finally picked up our Campervan today :) we were really looking forward to it after 5 days in New Zealand, moving from Auckland to Christchurch with all our stuff, packing and unpacking... it is a really nice big car with enough space for everything we have. After ,,moving in" and buying food and all the things we might need, we made it to Rakaia river. We were quite tired and little Louis was not in a ,,travelling mood" so we decided to stay there on a parking place. The first night was a little scary, because someone knocked on the door at 11 p.m. shouting something I couldn't understand. We thought, it would be the police to tell us, we weren't supposed to park there, but there was nobody infront the door. We doublechecked all the doors and went to sleep after that. However it was really windy outside, the car was shaking all the time so I had a feeling, there is somebody outside and couldn't fell asleep till 4 a.m. ... maybe the freedom camping is not that romantic as I thought.Read more

  • Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki

    December 13, 2024 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Next day, we were heading straight to the mountains :) . Our first stop was the picturesque lake Tekapo, which is really as blue as all the travelguides promised. We made a long walk around the lake to see the famous church, all the beuatiful lupins and also to check some places to stay. Freedom camping is not allowed in this region and after the experience of the first night I also wanted to feel a little more secure. The nice camping place at the lake was unfortunately booked out (and it seemed to be one of those you really need to book in advance) and the others around were 20$ or more per night. Unfortunately we didn't have more than 10$ in cash anymore, so we checked Campermate for the next free Camping place and Bingo. It was the best decision to move to lake Pukaki and spend the night at the beautiful place called ,,the Pines". There were no more than 3 Campervans and two cars except of us, so we could spend the night directly at ,,our own" beach with a beautiful seeview😍. And we slept much better that night 😊Read more
