The day started really early with a flight from Tampa to Minneapolis. From there a quick shuttle to the rental car and off I went to meet my friend Ella in Pierz. By chance she invited me up for the opening of deer hunting week not knowing I have been really wanting to learn to hunt and harvest one. The two hour drive quickly changed from the typical city landscape to country. It’s hard to imagine that most of the winter this is all covered in snow. Once I arrived at Ella’s house, surrounded by trees, a river running behind, and a chicken farm across the street, we inspected the rifles we will be using and walked to the deer blind she built on her property. Deer tracks were all around. We climbed up the steep ladder and planned our positioning for the early morning hunt. Then off we went for a drive around the countryside. We stopped along the way where a large buck was just standing in a field knowing he was safe for the moment. The next stop required a couple games of pool in the coolest garage I have seen. Along with a pool table, there was a full bar, and even a hidden living room. Moving on we saw the family properties and construction underway of her uncle Steve’s new home. We finished off the evening with a workshop meeting of friends and family strategizing about their hunt tomorrow. What a wonderful fun packed experience I had today. Early tomorrow we will position ourselves in the deer stand well before the sun comes up.Read more
