I think I may stay in Spain forever.

    29 апреля 2024 г., Испания ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Stumbled upon a bar. Food was hot and fresh and you got what they had. But it came with a warm hug of female love and free pours of wine and excessive laughter that was infectious. Locals pouring in and the ladies know their orders. Guessing certain bottles were specific for each customer. Never a question, just a pour and every local seems to get the pour into their coffee cups. No coffee, just special pours into the cups. When I ordered wine it came as a pour your own bottle with what my Italian father, would self depreciate in jest, and call a “dego” glass. That he would say was the best way to have table wine. It felt like home. And yes, I’m still here. Food was grilled ham and fried potatoes. Not healthy, but heartwarming and tasted like the scent of home and love. The Camino provides. Written while myself and the are owners are singing “staying alive” to the ill tuned radio station song. These ladies are everyone’s mother, sister, wife, cousin and friend. I love them.Читать далее

Hard to find hot food before 8pm here. And I don’t think I can stay up past 8. lol.

But, alas, I found a lovely place that even the birds love. I love the Camino!

    1 мая 2024 г., Испания ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Pouring rain and cloudy but the Wet Way has people all walking together. I walked with three monks most of the morning. They were very quiet. Silent and walking. Which I know, you know, was the biggest challenge yet for me….. hot tea time at a little cozy spot in the rain.Читать далее

    Storming like crazy

    1 мая 2024 г., Испания ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Ran into a man bar. All burley men hiding from the storm. Lucky me, someone bought me an expresso with a side of whiskey. I must have been shivering when I came in. Life is good. I have been told to “take my coffee and rest” while the storm passes or I “will be too sick to walk tomorrow.” Oh, they don’t know what hardy stock I am. But I am enjoying the respite and concern. It’s a tough job being a pilgrim. Needs coffee, whiskey and cookies indeed.Читать далее

On way to Pontevedra. But first…

    2 мая 2024 г., Испания ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

I had to mourn the loss of my trekking poles. They were my best friends. But alas, someone needed them more than I, and must have thought they were perfect for their journey. I wish an adventure with those that needed them more. And now, I am taking a little side trip to a sporting goods store to find some new besties. They are a necessity with my clumsiness and talent at breaking bones. lol. Let the adventure continue, as the Camino provides. In many ways! Raining but not as cold today and more pilgrims than any other day, making it festive! Buen Camino.Читать далее

And I now have new walking poles for only $20 euros and the wonderful shop keeper even fitted them for me and recommended a seafood place for an early lunch to wait out the rain. The Camino provides. And very, very well I might add. Even the shrimp are dancing in Spain. Turn on your volume to verify the shrimp video! We should all dance everyday, for life is our stage. Life is beautiful. People are beautiful. Bounties and adventures await around every corner. What will be next? I cannot wait!Читать далее

    Camino boo boos!

    2 мая 2024 г., Испания ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

While this is a fun, challenging and amazing adventure; I do have to share some little injuries for anyone planning to do this. Put it in my-didn’t know that would happen- file.
First, the tops of my hands (thumb and forefingers) are sunburnt and blistered from holding the trekking poles. I guess there are UVs even on raining and cloudy days. Ouch
Second, I believe I am going to lose my left big toe nail. Like a marathon runner. lol. Not that athletic.
It starting hurting yesterday, so I put a bandaide on it. Took it off tonight and my toe is starting to turn colors. Hint- buy shoes one size up- your feet swell after 4 hours of hiking. Oopsie. Memories!!!! Sorry for the ugly pics. Need to counter balance all the scenery and food.

    Caldes de Rei

    3 мая 2024 г., Испания ⋅ 🌧 13 °C

Arrived. Two more days! Really raining today, so not too many pictures. But fun end to the day! I drank lots of warm tea today. Lots. Visited a few lovely churches and just finished a great meal of veal, tomatoes, potatoes and wine (and western movies) when a young man I knew walked into the same town and same restaurant…. Fun to cross paths with my nephew for a moment, who is also walking the Camino. Also ran into new friends from Germany, Solvakia, Poland and Chile. Absolutely amazing day! Sorry it had to come to an end. Tomorrow I’m headed to my last official night on the Camino in Padrón.Читать далее

    Pedron oh Pedron

    4 мая 2024 г., Испания ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Made it in the rain and through flooded pathways. Last 6 mls with wet feet. But one more day left. Tomorrow- Santiago!
Today was absolutely stunning. Rushing rivers, real “spanish” moss, horses, donkeys, succulents, flowers, churches, all of the wonders of nature and gifts from God. I am lucky and blessed and happy.

Oh, almost forgot. I finally figured out why this is called “find my
Penguins” and is the “camino app”. After a day walking the Camino, you take your shoes off, and literally you walk like a penguin. So, if you are reading this, you are finding your penguin.

    Guess what?!

    5 мая 2024 г., Испания ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

I have been baptized twice, been married once, watched my son be baptized, taught Sunday school through my groups first communion, been an alcolite, youth director, and to many weddings and I must confess.. I have never wanted to get to a church more in my life than today. It was overwhelming, exhausting, emotional, spiritual, jubilant and everything any positive adjective could describe. I am transformed. And prostrate from fatigue and adulation of all that has been accomplished and learned on this self imposed journey.
Thank you for cheering me on. You were part of this and in my heart.

    The day after- emotions

    6 мая 2024 г., Испания ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Wow. I didn’t cry yesterday. But cried twice today and wanted to share.

The first time was going into church and lighting candles for those in my prayers.

The second was when I went to the top of the cathedral to witness the Birds Eye view of pilgrims coming in. I decided to video some pilgrims walking in to share. Warning- little God wink coming.. The first pilgrim I saw limping in is on the left in black with a green rain cover on her backpack. She came in alone and I just needed to capture her walking in. No idea why, but I had to. She looked as tired as I had felt last night, but avoided looking at the cathedral (other than a glance), and instead photographed the back building. I stopped recording out of respect when she turned to the cathedral. After I stopped recording I saw her begin to weep and run to the left alcove and grab her phone, completely bawling. I ran down three flights of deep stairs (ouch) and across the plaza to make sure she was ok. I found her on the phone speaking in tears to someone. I just sat for a moment to catch my breath near her. She later turned to me and said hi and I asked her, “are you ok?” And she replied, “I’m here from Poland and called my husband who couldn’t come to watch me come in. I am very shy and couldn’t ask anyone to take my photo for my family so he and my kids could share the moment.” As you can guess, I told her I had just taken the video below. Hugs and tears and a call home to Poland and her entire family talked to me. Her name was Malwina, and we were meant to meet today. The Camino and fellow Pilgrims provide! We are all here together. Thank you Malwina for being my subject and for not considering me a stalker. God bless and buen camino.

    My walk is done.
