  • Most beautiful part of the day!

    April 22, 2024 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

The beach was so lovely today. I saw this sweet couple with Alzheimer’s being given a ride by their caretaker, who said Bom Camino to me. I stayed and talked for a while. Made my heart sing. We each have our difficulties in life…. But we all have each other, and smiles! With love- we can find a way to the beach! Special part of the day. Being awake to lessons in life. Never give up!Read more

I think mile 10. Here is what I have learned so far today. I’m pooped. Thinking while resting for a minute and eating olives.

  • Day 1 is officially done.

    April 22, 2024 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Just found a bed. Wanted to keep going; but had to stop. I felt water fill my shoe and thought it was blood. Nope. Just one of four blisters that popped in my shoe. Just water. Time to drain, clean and bandaid my booboos. Then get back on the road tomorrow. 16.2 miles today. On my way! Bom Camino. Ay, bendito to my feet.Read more

  • Day 2 begins.

    April 23, 2024 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

On my way to Vila do Conte along the coast. Drained and treated the blisters and I’m on my way. Pain is just a reminder I am doing something hard. And I am blessed to feel it. What a wonderful start to my day! The sun is shining, people are smiling and there is a light breeze in my hair. I am blessed. And for all of those holding the world together- bless you!Read more

  • Break time.

    April 23, 2024 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Mile 7 day 2. Lovely to walk along the beach; and on the beach. Cute fishing towns and community gardens. Lovely people. Feels like each one stops me and tells me something of extreme importance; sometimes even touching my face or holding my shoulders to stress the importance of their words. But I don’t understand them; so I smile, hug and thank them and walk on. Could they be telling me “you are going the wrong way? You have toilet paper on your shoe? You look like you’re having a heart attack? You need sun block? “ Or just blessing me for my Camino. I think the latter. as there is always love and a twinkle in their eye. And blessing a stranger feels like what I want it to be. And since I am the author of my story- that it shall be. Bom Camino back at you. Walk on.Read more

  • Rest time - day 2

    April 23, 2024 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Only 9.7 mls today. But hard ones. Lots of walking on sand. Gorgeous day. Perfect weather. Funny how my backpack feels heavier everyday and if anything it should be getting lighter as things are used up. Surely a metaphor of life. The more weight and baggage we take on when we are strong, the heavier our burden becomes over time. And carrying too much can bring you down and make moving forward more difficult. So either dig in and carry a big load or shed some burdens giving them back gently to their right place. Then refill your bag with only what you need and lots of love and joy which are effervescent and light. BOM Camino. Rest, shower then pilgrim dinner at 7:30.Read more
